What a beuatiful and amazing experience this was. I did this trip with my 4 year old daughter. It was a bit of a battle portaging the 2.5km to launch site but we made it through the hurdles and got on our way. The views are breathtaking and we were even able to catch a couple of fish on the way to our camp site. It was about an 8km paddle to where we stayed and we lucked out with great weather on the paddle in however we got hit with some harsh weather on our way back but made it safe and sound. I would reccomend this trip to anyone however it isnt for the faint of heart and having two strong and able people for the portaging would make life easier. Love my daughter but she was not able to haul the canoe haha.

The road in is fine. It's a typical backcountry road. The Portage is well maintained with bridges and culverts. It does work up a sweat and the Skeeters are awful. The lake is amazing and beautiful. Sandy or gravel beaches, snow capped mountains. The lake tries to kill you on a regular basis, the wind will push down the different arms of the lake to creates waves big enough to swamp the best canoe. Be prepared to be stuck for hours or even overnight at any point. We were stuck on the wrong side of the lake until 9pm and still nearly capsized getting back to camp. 5/5 would thoroughly recommend.

Solo hike into the Murtle Lake, I was drawn to the No Motorized watercraft little tunnel in time like a path in Lion Witch and Wardrobe, what a life changing easy little hike and day swim, definitely going back ! 💯

Amazing. Access road is a reasonably maintained logging road. 2.5 km portage trail to canoe launch is in good condition. Be prepared to sweat, especially on the way out. The lake is pristine, crystal clear and the fishing is good. The water, especially on the west arm is warm enough for swimming. The scenery is amazing. Park staff are helpful and knowledgeable. Several hiking trails offer wilderness hiking and spectacular views. We spent 10 days here with 3 kids (5, 7, and 9) in 2020 and will be doing it again in 2021. Bring bug spray and sunscreen and an open mind. Move camp early as the wind often picks up in the afternoon. Had to hunker down a couple of times and wait out a storm. Stay close to shore if conditions are changing. Sandy beaches and breathtaking views await. This is truly...

Murtle lake itself is beautiful. Getting there is a different story. First you have to drive 24 kilometers in on a gravel road and then walk/hike 4 kilometers to the lake. If you want to take a rental canoe or kayak with you, then you have to use a cart for 2.5 kilometers to carry it before you can offload your canoe or kayak. One heck of a workout with the uphill downhill cart path. If you walk the whole way in you will encounter a trail that is deceivingly longer than posted with trees blown down on the trail past the canoe/kayak launch. The trek in was barely worth the peace of paradise that awaits you. Not sure we will...
