I am so incredibly glad we decided to pull over and stop at Spahats Creek Falls during our drive through Clearwater! What an absolute gem this place is. From the moment you arrive, you can tell it's well cared for. The trail leading to the falls is exceptionally well done and maintained, making for an easy and pleasant walk. The initial view as you approach the main area is nothing short of breathtaking – a deep, impressive canyon stretches out before you, hinting at the grandeur to come. But just a little further around, you reach the main viewing area, and that's where the magic truly happens. The falls themselves are absolutely stunning and incredibly interesting to behold. Spahats Creek Falls truly stands out because the water seems to burst directly out of a hidden cave in the side of the canyon wall! It's such a unique geological feature and immediately piqued my interest, making me wonder exactly where that water is coming from deep within the rock. Overall, this was a fantastic stop that exceeded all expectations. If you're driving through Clearwater, do yourself a favor and experience the beauty and mystery of Spahats...
Read moreFantastic waterfall and amazing geology combined! The walk to the viewpoint from the parking lot is along a fence that runs above the slot canyon the river has carved, you can hear the raging water but you can't see it at this point. Soon, you're actually above the falls, which is still not visible. A little further along, the scene opens up into this incredible view of sheer walls of multicoloured basalt columns that look like an enormous amphitheatre created by the force of the falls. It's not until you're nearly all the way around to the actually viewing platform that you can look back and see this beautiful waterfall. The falls almost appears to come out of nowhere before it plunges straight into the depths of the river below. It's a very short walk over easy terrain and certainly a not to be missed waterfall right off...
Read moreSpahats Falls is one of the falls in the Wells Gray Provincial Park at Clearwater, just off the Southern Yellowhead Highway. We had to walk a bit from the bus parking lot but it was quite a pleasant one through some old growth forest. The towering falls looked beautiful with the water gushing down from a narrow opening in the layers of solidified lava and falling with a force about eighty meters below. The falls were in two steps making it look longer. We could distinctly make out the different layers of solidified lava flows which led to the formation of these hills. There are supposed to be four more major falls in the Wells Gray Park but we were on a time budget so we had to get back in our bus to Vancouver. There were decent washrooms and a food stall selling hot Belgian waffles near the...
