One of these Images is looking North from the trailhead, the other west over the Creston Valley during a thunderstorm. Amazing views from the trailhead and beyond in all directions towards the Rockies and Selkirks and even south into Idaho. The trail is moderately difficult and as always, with sub Alpine and above you should assume that the weather could be a season behind; If it's summer in the valley it can easily be early spring up top,so plan and dress accordingly.

Took two friends from out of town, one of whom is a photographer, up to the Top of Mount Thompson & walked the first KM during Sunset. Little skiff of snow up there mixed with the setting sun made for some impressive photos. Decided to come back early so we didn’t lose daylight, but reminded how much I enjoy this trail. Also nice to see the new camping site, picnic tables & trail kiosks that the Community Forest has put up. Will have to come back in the Spring!

Found the Begining... always Scout the Journey First Hand. I shall return for some True Adventuring. Also, the 11km logging road access to the top of Thompson Mountain itself is breathtaking for the driver and passengers alike. Once up top a longer hike and trailblazing can ensue.

The Thompson Rim Trail is a ridge walk along Thompson Mountain. There is very little exposure, with a well kept trail and even a camping site at the trailhead. Subalpine plants and flowers are numerous, especially in July. Views extend up to kootenay lake and duck lake to the north, and well into Idaho in the South. Not to mention you can see the entire patchwork of fields in the expansive valley below and downtown Creston. Well worth the hike (or at least the drive to radio towers...
