I thought it was a very unique campground. There are some really nice spots with shade so make sure that you book those if it's going to be hot. The sites without power and water are spaced really nice.

If you looking for power and water sites there are only a few available and they all share a water port (bring long hose) and share a fire pit. Parking is tight and on pavement. The park closes at 11pm so you have to make sure you are back in time.

The reason I rated a 3 star was the hospitality that I experienced. We were camping with my young family 1 and 3 year old and the temperature was 35 degrees Celsius. You are only allowed to use generator from 6pm till 8pm. I had the generator running from 7pm till 830 and was trying to get my kids to sleep. The park operator came by and I apologized and asked if I could shut the Gen set off after the kids got to sleep he said sure. Then came by in 30 more minutes and I just shut it off and he left without talking to me.

The next day was 36 degrees with no wind. We got back from the family reunion around 830 pm and I just fired up the 58db Gen set for 30 minutes to circulate the air and cool off the trailer. I noticed they started to drive up the hill in their golf cart so I shut it off. Next thing you know I was being issued a written warning for my generator abuse. I tried to be as polite as possible and the operator was determined to write me up. He then told me one more time and I would have to leave.

That night there was people partying screaming and yelling. Chopping wood late at night all in which were louder than my 58 decibel Gen set.

The worst part about this whole experience Was when I went to talk to the park host to get ice and he asked what site I was in. I told him and he said " oh your the generator guy" then I came off a little strong when he said that and pleaded my case and expelled my feelings for their rules for the extreme temperatures and was hoping for some time to cool off to get my kids to sleep. He just said " rules are rules"

I was brushing my teeth in the very clean and organized bathrooms after having a hot clean shower. And had a chance to read the "Rules" there are a bunch of them which is fine but the funny thing is the one about the pets. They have to be on leashes the whole time...... the park host is always walking around with his 2 dogs off their leash at the park across from his site. I wish I had a chance to call him out on it but it doesn't really matter. I definitely would go back if the temperature was cooler. Maybe the heat was getting to the workers too but it seemed so unfair to be so strict in that hot of temperature with young kids.

Pros: Views were nice Lots of sunshine Nice kept sites Nice fire pits Wildlife and birds were everywhere Boat launch very close by Clean showers and bathrooms

Cons Staff friendliness Not much of a beach No place to get ice or wood you have to catch the staff on golf carts Lack of shade for hot days trees were small and few Cost I had to pay 24 dollars to reserve a site Park gate closes at 11pm and the access to the showers closed as well Generator hours are 9am till 11am and 6pm till 8pm Sprinklers in your site come on at 2am Host was off duty for 3 days of the 4 days we were there. Wed till Sun Changing reservation costs you a day rate even if 2 days in advance also (7 days in advance)

I hope this review gives you some information about this park. If I had a boat I would be back there; since I don't I will stay closer to Vernon.

3rd year coming to this site for Canada day long weekend.

This year the park ranger was extremely rude when we arrived. We had a double site and was sharing with friends who was towing a boat. We temporarily parked slightly off the gravel pad to give them room and she reacted extremely snarky and asked my husband if she didn’t give him enough room on the site.

The same night she came to our site to tell us to turn the music off and we immediately respected her and left our site to go down to the water. the next night we turned our music off RIGHT AT 10pm (quiet time) and 40 minutes later she showed up at our site with a police officer. She gave us no warning, we had our music off and were just sitting around a fire keeping our voices down. She ordered us to leave our site in 30 minutes. We were all consuming alcohol and were not able to drive. She told us to take cabs back to Surrey. We thought that was absolutely ridiculous. She was wasting this police officers valuable time as well as ours. We told her we were leaving in the morning and that was final. We packed up and left at 8:30am.

We observed her having problems with other campers as well and had a horrible attitude towards everyone in the campground. She ruined our weekend.

Only plus site of this campground is the cleanliness, and location to boat launch and water. We will NOT be staying here again and we do not recommend wasting money here if you want to have a good weekend with...

Absolutely abhorrent to say the least. The camp host, as others have mentioned in reviews here and what I've heard from other people's experiences (including my own), is absolutely the nastiest, rudest person I have ever come across. The facilities are sub par...for such a busy place the boat launch is so massively inadequate it's quite normal to have to wait for over an hour to launch or retrieve your boat...that's even if you can get a spot on the dock. The road leading in to the park hasn't been paved since the 50's, it's falling apart and so full of potholes and half-assed patches you can't avoid them....I think third world countries have better roads. There's not even a walkway for pedestrians to walk to the sorry excuse for a beach, so you have people lugging their beach gear down the road while trucks and boat trailers are trying to get around. Avoid this place at all costs; it's such a gong show it's a mess... Poor planning and lack of forethought has doomed this place...it's so busy and overcrowded it's not even enjoyable. I'm not being cynical or overdramatic...this is just the reality...

On the plus side this park is located close to Hwy 97 and is easy to find. Most sites are large, private, level and have a view of the lake and valley. There are lots of birds and marmots to watch from your campsite. There is a modern playground near the lake, hiking trails through the grasslands and along the shore an old railway has been converted to a level, wide, gravel trail. What at first appear to be pit toilets are actually flush toilets with sinks. There are good docks and a good boat launch. On the negative side this park is on a hill side, has only one shower house, and lower level sites may be flooded in early spring. All but 4 sites have no power, water or sewer. There are 4 sites with electricity which are the worse sites in the park. They are small, with no privacy, a shared fire-pit, and flooded in spring. The power hook ups are on a shared post between sites. The beach is just a small backwater with a rock trail difficult for parents with strollers to navigate.

This is an unreal campsite. The sites on the upper tiers have fantastic views if you dont mind walking a little further to the washrooms or beach area. The showers and washrooms are always super clean and tidy with electricity for your razor or blow dryer etc. Sites are always well kept and the bushes and trees provide good privacy and spacing between sites. Lots of water stations and garbage/recycling areas. Ice is available for purchase on site as well as firewood. The lake is absolutely pristine with NO weeds and some of the most crystal clear water I've seen in BC. The shore is also perfectly clean with rock instead of sand but the stones are all very small and are great for laying a beach mat down on or a low chair for the water. This campground is one we have come back to over the last 11 years and is still our favorite spot hands down.

Great camping in the desert. Quiet campground, respectful campers. Staff very friendly. Pet friendly. Gorgeous Kal lake! Lots of little field mice running around in the long grass and bush areas, you rarely see them. Watch for bull and rattle snakes if going on a hike. Lots of deer around. Playground is situated near the day use area which is a really beautiful space. Picnic area is on green grass and overlooking the lake. Playground is pretty big as well. Boat launch area kind of sucks because it's such a busy lake. Huge parking lot but even that was packed full. Bathrooms have flush toilets even in the outhouses. The main bathroom building has a toilet stall and a few shower stalls as well.
