Me and my buddy did the loop in 5 days. We hit rain everyday. (End of June). The nights were around 5 degrees and the days were about 12-16. Couple things: Make sure you balance the weight on your canoe. In one of the stormy days we came very close to flipping the canoe. (which is apparently a relatively common accident in this loop). A group flipped their canoe near the first cascade just behind us. Lots of mosquitoes obviously. Don't let the weather and rain change your schedule, it could rain non stop. Make sure you rent the carts, it is a bit annoying in rain but still better than lifting the canoe. If it is 3 of you and one canoe I suggest not renting the carts because it slows you down a lot. We stayed at campsites: 19 (very nice campsite with lots of space), 26 (huge campsite on the side of a creek), 35 (Tiny campsite with a nice view of the Ishpa Mountain top, in the rain the tent pad could be a pool, we had no problem because we were wet the whole time), and 51 (Big campsite, we originally thought this was campsite 49). We were back at the registration office around 1 p.m. on day 5. We had lots of time to chill every day. If the weather is good I suggest 5 to 6 nights. It could potentially be done in 3 nights but 4 nights was ideal for us. So-far the best...
Read moreA world class opportunity. I've done it 4 times. We rent from Becker's lodge. The owner comes across a bit serious ... if you find yourself losing points with him, mention your love for the national German soccer team.
The sweet spot for me was a 8 days 7 nights. It maintains a good balance between movement and respite.
I'd recommend getting the first 3 portages out of the way on the 1st day. This is quite manageable if you had the early meeting at the Rangers' station. The sites right before Isaac lake and the 1st Isaac lake camp site can be abysmal fresh water sources. If possible head toward anything else on Isaac. Bearing in mind that wind on the north arm of Isaac can be a real kick in the pants occasionally.
Make an effort to stay a night at the camp site located at "the schute".
Make another effort to stay a night on the sandy beach located in the middle...
Read moreProvincial campground beautiful and well looked after. Did the West side of the circuit with my wife and kids (8, 10 &12). Absolutely gorgeous and doable with minimal paddling skills. Portages and campsites seem to be well maintained. Many rules to follow and make sure you know before you go. That said, compared to Wells Gray canoe trips, the rangers here seem very scarce and unengaged. They do not do any of the things we are used to at Wells Gray like check on people, clean the outhouses or even supply toilet paper. Seems like we could have gotten away with just about anything against the rules and they would have never known or cared. That said, this is a great...
