Out of all the vineyards we went to in Canada during our holiday this must be our least favourite. We went to try the wine tasting at Cherry Point. When we arrived there were two groups in-front of us and the lady owner politely asked us to wait whilst she finished with the other group. We waited and really liked how the lady went through in detail the wines and really engaged with each group. Therefore we were excited to start our turn as we quite enjoy the social side of the wine tasting as much as the tasting itself. We waited for about 15 minutes, after which the husband came in. This is where it all went downhill. He called us over and started showing us the wines we could taste. The man literally went through nothing about the wines or even engaged with us at all. What made it worse was the guy pulled out a measuring glass and literally measured the tiniest amount of wine into the glass and I mean tiny amounts. You couldn’t even taste it properly with the quantity he poured in. If he poured too much in he took it out and put it back into the measuring glass and poured it back into the wine bottle….really….. really?? Never in our 10+ countries we went to tasting wine someone has done that. Our wine tasting started and finished within the space of 5 minutes, I don’t even think it was 5 minutes. Just to compare, the lady didn’t use a measuring cup and she was overall fantastic with the other guests. Our personnel advice is that the husband stays away from the...
Read moreCherry Point Vineyards is a hidden gem on Vancouver Island. Any negative comments are being made by people who don't appreciate the experience of visiting a small, family run, business where the owners are the ones likely tasting you the wines. This is in contrast to the large corporate wineries that are increasingly buying up wineries on the island and installing flashy tasting rooms, and serving inferior wine described by verbose tasters who really don't know what they're taking about, just reading a script.
Complaints about the quality of Cherry Point wines are being made out of ignorance, from people with little knowledge of how wine is made or simply have no palate. The wines being made here are the most full bodied, clean, and flavorful wines on Vancouver Island, and perhaps in much of Canada. The cool temperatures on Vancouver Island are not conducive to producing red wines, but Cherry Point does it, and is the only winery that does it well. We make a trip up to Victoria annually to restock our cellar with several cases of Cherry Point.
As a bonus, when it's open you can visit their bistro where the food matches the quality of the wine. That's rare and nowhere else on the island can you experience that. Make the trip and enjoy...
Read moreWe arrived with for a bridal shower and was served by arlana I believe her name was. We arrived at 2:35pm at 3:19 we recieved our wine with no apology and food was delivered 5 minutes later. There was 3 servers but only 2 tables so it was very disappointing for our party to have such slow delivery of our drinks. We also asked for suggestions on a wine choice and said we preferred shiraz’s our server didn’t know what it was. When the food arrived at the same time as drinks everything came out at once meaning we sat with starters and mains in front of us quit cluttered. We also informed the gentleman at the bar the women’s lock was broken he said “tell Maria” which we have no idea who that is.
The not saving grace was the food was good but I can say from being a hospitality manager It had to be the worst service I have seen and if I was a manager I would be EXTREMELY...
