I was looking forward to our tasting at Cobble Hill Winery as I quite enjoy their wines. However our experience fell far short of expectations. Each year we travel up island for an event and plan a visit at a few wineries along the way - it’s a day we always look forward to. We travel with two well behaved dogs, and ensure they are welcome wherever we go. CHW did indeed welcome dogs and we bought along a picnic to enjoy. The day was very hot (as is usual in July), and we looked forward to enjoying some shade. However, and despite there being a shaded, comfortable paved patio area nearby, guests appeared to be seated onto a sweltering wooden slatted deck of the main building. Our server was very friendly and seated us at a corner away from others so our dogs could Spread out. There was no dog dish or water offered, as is the case in other wineries, so we returned to the car for a dish and water. During that time, one of our dogs was stung by a wasp which had entered through the gaps in the boards. The poor thing had no idea what had happened, and she was quite scared. We asked if we could move to the concrete area, but were denied without any reason. We asked for ice for the swelling, but there wasn’t any, so I again made my way back to the car for ice. During that trip I inspected under the deck and noted a nest through the open part of under the deck. I mentioned this to our server and saw a woman (I think she was an owner) head towards there. Finally settled, and quite cramped in the deck space, dogs under the table, we began our tasting. The server was very knowledgeable and we did enjoy the wines. The deck, though, was so hot and we were concerned about being stung - and the spacious concreted patio looked so inviting. It was such a shame we could not use it, especially on such a hot day. Chatting with the other patrons (we were in very close confines), we were not alone. I purchased three bottles, and highly recommend the Moscat, which went amazingly well with our Nori sushi meal that evening. There is a $15 tasting fee which is redeemable with the purchase of two bottles, which in my experience is steep. There are many other wineries in the area providing a much more comfortable and better experience. (Averill Creek, Unsworth to name a few)I was asked if I wanted to purchase another bottle to waive the tasting fee, but I didn’t feel the cost to purchase ratio was worth it. Quite frankly, we were so over the heat and the wasps buzzing at the end of the deck by then, we just wanted to leave. It was a shame no one followed up on our dog’s Condition. I think it would have been a professional and empathetic gesture on management’s part to waive both our fees entirely Given the less than comfortable...
