On the tour we went on, our guide suggested this was among her favorite, so we had to stop. I think everyone in our group would agree with her that Nostalgia is worth the stop.
Nostalgia vineyard is known for its vintage labels featuring pin-up girls from the 1950s. While the labels evoke nostalgia, upon tasting their latest releases, I found they also hint at the winery's future potential.
The 2020 Chardonnay shows promise with notes of golden delicious apple and lemon curd on the nose. However, it lacks complexity on the palate, coming across as a bit one-dimensional with a sharp, acidic finish. More time in oak and on the lees could have added layers of texture and nuance. That said, the wine is balanced and enjoyable while still young. Very drinkable.
The 2020 Pinot Noir fares a bit better, with aromas of cherry, cranberry, and cinnamon stick. Flavors of red fruit and baking spice are pleasant if a touch simple. The tannins are soft yet grippy, suggesting this wine may develop more interest with cellaring. I'd be curious to taste 2023 in a few years to see if additional complexity emerges from a more mature Vineyard.
The real standout is the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, which shows the potential I believe this estate possesses. Rich boysenberry and cassis aromas lead to a palate of ripe black fruit, cocoa powder, and tobacco leaf. While the fruit flavors are lush, they are balanced by integrated, velvety tannins. This is a Cabernet with depth and dimension rarely found in wines at this price point. It drinks beautifully now.
Overall, Nostalgia vineyard seems to be on an upward trajectory. With time, their wines may develop the nuance and sophistication to match the complexity of their evocative labels. For those looking to discover a winery still coming into its own, Nostalgia offers quality, value, and the chance to watch a rising star over the coming years. I look forward to revisiting these grapes to observe...

Read moreWe were driving down and saw the sign for nostalgia wine, it grabbed our attention and we decided to take a detour and check it out. We were the only people there and were welcomed back Jack. We ended up spending over 30 minutes there just chatting up with Jack about so many things, their adventures out to the west coast and feeling nostalgic about life in Ontario. The wine was really nice and Jack gave us customized wine tasting based on our preference, because my husband prefers white wine over red. Thank you Jack, it was truely one of our favourite part of our day and if you’re ever in Oliver, you should definitely check...
