We stayed at this campground for a week and we're very happy with it.
It is beside the highway, but there is decent tree coverage blocking the views and some of the highway noise. You'll still hear highway noise, but we found it relaxing.
The campground has no power, so bring your solar panels if you're going to be there for any length of time.
There are plenty of water taps with good clean potable water and plenty of immaculate "pit toilets" (outhouses).
There are hiking trails that lead to the lake (NOT bicycle friendly).
The grounds were manicured and well taken care of. Probably the cleanest and neatest provincial campground I've seen before.
The only downside would be the sewer dump. It is pointing the wrong way so you aren't able to fully dump. We went into FSJ and used the municipal sani-dump, which was very nice. (Bring some quarters to pay for water).
There is wood for purchase. $10 gets you a laughable amount of firewood, so if you like to have more than a cooking fire, you'll need to bring some or be prepared to pay for it.
There is a (provincial) boat launch down the street from the campground that we used a few times and one at the RV park in Charlie Lake.
The RV park launch is used more as it has docks to load and unload passengers, but we had trouble unloading a pontoon boat due to the low water levels and the unkept boat launch pad.
We utilized the provincial park boat launch most of the time as it was well maintained. It's a bit of a tight maneuver to get a longer unit down the ramp, but it's doable. Be sure to have someone scout out the road first so you dont meet someone coming out of the water (blind corner and down hill). NOTE: there is no dock at this launch so someone will need to wade through the water and jump on the boat after you park the truck.
Fishing was good. We limited out a couple times on walleye and even got to see some sucker fish, which was neat.
Overall, this was our 4th trip to this campground and we will likely be back. With its close proximity to facilities, and decent fishing, it is a nice well rounded camping experience.
Pro tip: Be sure to stop by the Charlie lake store for anything you forgot or didn't know you needed. (Liquor...
Read moreMain hiking trail goes along the shore of the lake. There are also three connection trails that lead from the campground on the west side of the park to the shore trail on the east side. The trail along the shore is fairly smooth so strollers and kids on bikes will have fun. Sometimes it's a little muddy in the dips. The trail on the north side of the campground is a good small hike, but the trail isn't wide and has a lot of uneven ground so don't take a...
Read morePart itself is great!! It was our luck to have very inconsiderate neighbors! Trying to fix their boat motor in the park was very rude!! Revving engine all day even when park officials asked them to stop. Then blared music until 4 am. We left early Sunday morning instead of Monday like we had paid for. Park officials need to monitor much better, we only saw 1 very young girl the whole weekend, not much of a detterent for the jerks...
