Lower Myra Falls — Attraction in Area D (Oyster Bay/Buttle Lake)

Nice trail. Very moderate. Great for beginners. From the parking lot, has a pit toilet and a map outlining the various routes, head across the road and begin walking along the gated dirt road. Within a few metres you will pass the trailhead for Arnica Creek, however you will continue on for a little ways further. After around a kilometre of hiking you will see the signed path for the Upper Myra Falls trail on your right. Turn onto the trail and begin to hike up the mild elevation gain towards Upper Myra Falls. The well-maintained trail switchbacks gently up the hillside, through beautiful old growth trees and the classic Vancouver Island mossy underbrush. The trail will level out as you traverse to the west, gently undulating up and down. After a while of hiking you will finally come to the Upper Myra Falls viewpoint, a small wooden platform with the stunning scene of the raging 75-foot-tall waterfall plummeting into the deep blue basin. My wife and I recently checked out Lower Myra Falls over on Vancouver Island. When we got there, we noticed a short gravel road leading to the trailhead, but it looked a bit bumpy. So, we decided to park our car before that and just walk the extra bit—it wasn’t too far.

At the trailhead, there's a restroom, which is always a plus before hitting the trail. Speaking of the trail, it's pretty easygoing—nothing too strenuous. We managed to do the whole thing in under 40 minutes, and that includes the time we spent hanging out by the falls, snapping pics and shooting videos.

And let me tell you about those falls—awesome! I could actually stand right under them, which was a total highlight. It’s not a massive waterfall, but it’s impressive enough for a good photo op.
