Hello everyone

I’m Vida Turok resident, caretaker and lover of Sandon since August 2016 also the proprietor of the 14th Mountain Bistro and the Prospector’s Pick in Sandon as well as the landscaper (domestic flower grower) among many many other cool restoration projects in Sandon.

It is very important to know that the Sandon Historical Societies involvement in Sandon is the museum (brick building) and the two replica buildings adjoining the museum.

Everything else you enjoy (for FREE) is family operated and maintained and is for everyone to enjoy - this includes but not limited to the Steam Locomotive, the National Brill Trolley Exhibit, the 1900 City Hall, the world famous 1897 Sandon Hydroelectric Generating Station, antique, vintage and historical equipment and machines, property and numerous original buildings in and around Sandon.

It is important to understand that the Sandon Historical Society does not support or is involved with the family undertakings of the historical assets in Sandon. This is a choice they chose to make; we would love to work with the society and those involved however that is not the case - they have expelled me as a member and have expelled Hal Wright, the museum and society founder since 1998.

You will see signs in and around Sandon that share how the money is spent in Sandon.

I’ve collected the society financial records since 2007 and can tell you since 2016 the money’s collect (via admission) at the museum does not jive with the traffic that comes to Sandon and the cash back given to visitors to visit the society museum.

Everyone is welcome to access the society financial records in the last 10 years - all you need to do is contact the society directly.

The society does have some new directors however there are still old timers from 1998 either directly or indirectly involved with the society who continue to control how the society is managed.

Until the society accepts us back as members and is TRULY willing to work with us and not against us we will continue to share the ugly truth of this rogue group of people who are prejudice, hateful, discriminate against us and those who support us, lie and cheat the system - the story...

Off the beaten path attraction - 3 and a half hour drive from Vernon. Very authentic ghost town (albeit full of people...). Like the fact you can touch many of the artefacts/items on display. Many of the exhibits were found in the town site. A number of old buses are stored in the town awaiting restoration. You can climb on board to experience a ride in the 60's and 70's. The hydro power station further up the road is worth the short hike. The final approach to the town is a gravel road (last several kilometres) - one should have a spare tire. But there is a service station with a good mechanics in New Denver, at Hwy 6 & 6th Ave... in case, for instance, a large piece of glass left among the gravel punctures your tire on your...

The experience here is ALWAYS a lovely one. ❤️💯🥰 Last year we had a tour from one of the young men helping out and he was extremely knowledgable, helpful, polite and well mannered.

This year, we came up for a visit and ran into some lovely local artists who let us know of some beautiful new artwork that had just been dropped off.. Now, even though they were CLOSED the lady heard us knock AND WELCOMED US IN anyways. ❤️❤️ she talked to us, soent time explaining some of the new developments and even sold us a few of the new peices of art!

You just don't get this kind of service, thoughtfulness and kindness much these days! Thank you folks for always...

I'm glad that they are able to keep what they were able to salvage and find a way to display it. Unfortunately, some of it isn't Sandon history or heritage and I feel that detracts from the experience. The signage on some artefacts such as the buses ruins any photos as they are bright yellow and the font isn't era correct. The staff at the gift shop and power station were great. Those at the main museum couldn't be bothered to even look up for more than 2 seconds from their recreational reading material to take our admission fee. All in, it was worth the stop and I hope to see them find success in preserving their past.

The Sandon Museum had only a couple of open buildings. It is still an interesting site to visit. Only the museum building had a reasonable entry fee. Powerhouse is free. There are also several buses on the site to look at an old train engine. Check out the antiques to purchase and get some ice cream while you're there. If continuing on to Idaho Peak, you don't need a 4x4. Roads are passable with a decent vehicle. A low car might bottom out at a couple points and you will need to squeeze to the side when you meet other cars on the road.

Neat spot to stop and explore. We didn't actually go into the museum, but explored the ghost town. If you have the time take a walk along some of the old roads which are no longer used and you will encounter a few buildings. The power plant was neat to do a quick walk through. The tour they tell you they offer is just opening the doors for you to walk through and take a look yourself. Kids thought it was neat to see the old buses and the old train.
