Jug Island Beach Trail is a fantastic hiking spot located in Belcarra Regional Park, offering a great mix of scenic beauty and moderate physical challenge. The trail is about 5 kilometers round trip and leads to a beautiful, secluded beach with stunning views of Jug Island and the Indian Arm.
The hike starts from the Belcarra Picnic Area, and the initial section is a bit steep, requiring some effort. However, once we get past the beginning, the middle section of the trail becomes almost flat and very easy to walk. This makes it a great spot to enjoy the peaceful forest surroundings, with tall trees, moss-covered rocks, and occasional glimpses of wildlife. The well-maintained trail is mostly shaded, making it a pleasant hike even on warmer days.
As we reach the end, we are rewarded with a beautiful small beach where we can relax and take in the views. However, it's important to note that fires are not allowed on the beach or anywhere in the forest, so we should plan accordingly.
For the return journey, we need to be prepared for some uphill sections, as the trail gets a bit steep again on the way back. In winter, the trail can be slippery, so using shoe cleats is a good idea for better grip. Overall, Jug Island Beach Trail is an excellent choice for an easy-to-moderate hike with a rewarding...
Read moreThe Jug island trail is a medium pace 5.5 km on return. For kids and the elderly, make sure you have some kind of stick that you can carry to balance yourselves on the jagged edges of certain rocks as they have massive height differences between them on certain phases of the trail. Wouldn't recommend for people with back/knee problems. There are stairs in between to assist ascending/descending which helps keep the pace up. It takes about a good 20-30 mins to cover the trail one way from the road to the jug island beach. It's steeper on the way to the beach in terms of climbs and easier on the return. Overall a fantastic day trail if one wants to make it. Make sure you have good shoes that grip, a stick for added footing, and the prize awaits at the end of the trail - cold refreshing waters that you can take a dip in on a hot...
Read moreTotal length of approximate 5.6km 2 ways, took me wife (a non hiker) and I about one hour each way. first half of the trail was mostly flat limestone walk path, the second half section consists some stairs, tree roots, and some elevated rock "stairs". You will see lots of weeks mushrooms and mosses very often as the sun light didn't really get through the trail trees i suppose. Sneakers might be doable for some but a pair of proper hiking shoes is highly recommended as some sections can be slippery. Though The Hug Island Beach is fairly small and it has a decent view but not spectacular. It wasn't crowded in October and we didn't have to pay for parking due to the of...
