I had an opportunity to hike the Coxheath hills with my friends. We reach there by evening from sydney.Trail start by a steep climb up to the mountain. The whole path is covered by snow and water. There is a marvelous waterfall on the way and we can enjoy the peace in the bench there. When we reach the top we can watch the sky and the city.Keep going and you will find a pitman cabin. This is the most amazing thing about the trail. There are 3 trails to reach the cabin. If you pre book the cabin you can spent the night there and explore the peace and wilderness. Its takes 2.44 km to reach the top.The trail is suitable for all with crushed stone and wide path. This is an beautiful place to hiking.

The first time we've done this and honestly it is one of the best trails but one of the hardest trails we've done. I really did have trouble at parts but there was a nice view. I was expecting more from the view to be honest with you. I enjoyed the hike up though. It does level off after about ten minutes or twenty minutes you will have an easier time after that. I really and truly felt accomplished after doing this trail. Wonderful day and an even grater time. The door is normally open in the cabin if you do that main trail. We didn't do the western loop trail, but it's five k and really seemed nice, but we didn't have time.

Forget steep, the trailhead is EPIC! This is a difficult 45 degree climb for the first 3/4 km. Anyone with breathing or joint issues should evaluate their ability before starting. That said, I am an asthmatic with bad knees and I did it.Just remember to save some energy for the trip back because you are walking down that same climb and some places the rocks are loose. Be sure to have sturdy footwear. The upper loops are easy and moderate. With the large rain amounts, there are some muddy areas and washes, but nothing that makes the trails unsafe. Be sure to stop in at Pitman Lodge to sign the guest book.

The start of the trail is a little steep, but nowhere near the 45 degrees mentioned by other reviewers. As an experienced BC mountain hiker and skier, the slope varies 15-25 degrees which can be very deceptive and seem worse than it really is if you're not familiar with climbing. Quick way to tell is to crouch down until your fingers touch the ground, then reach forward with your arm horizontal/level. If your hand isn't touching the slope in front of you, it's not a 45. I still had ~2-3 arms lengths of extra horizontal past my hand, so it's a 1:4 to 1:3 slope at worst.

The western trail is closed but all the others are open.

Expect muddy areas, there's only about a foot of soil on bedrock so water drainage is minimal in low points.

North loop has some nice sights, but it isn't marked well. Fortunately there aren't any splitting paths coming off the north loop except for a climb to a bench lookout, so you won't get lost if you stay on the trail.

There's free trailhead parking...

We loved the trails at Coxheath Hills. The red trail is rated moderate which I think applies to the joggers running up the hill, not the rest of us. It is a tough climb if you aren't in great shape. We aren't, but we took it as a challenge. We made it to the top and the views were 100% worth it. We decided to complete the purple trail and head back down. The purple trail was so much easier. Beautiful forest trail, easily followed, with loads of mushrooms, butterflies and birds along the way. We could not find the yellow trail, we think we figured out where one end of it is. It is overgrown and might get more use if there was a sign or something near the entrances. We will deffinitely walk the trails again on our...
