The start of the trail is a little steep, but nowhere near the 45 degrees mentioned by other reviewers. As an experienced BC mountain hiker and skier, the slope varies 15-25 degrees which can be very deceptive and seem worse than it really is if you're not familiar with climbing. Quick way to tell is to crouch down until your fingers touch the ground, then reach forward with your arm horizontal/level. If your hand isn't touching the slope in front of you, it's not a 45. I still had ~2-3 arms lengths of extra horizontal past my hand, so it's a 1:4 to 1:3 slope at worst.
The western trail is closed but all the others are open.
Expect muddy areas, there's only about a foot of soil on bedrock so water drainage is minimal in low points.
North loop has some nice sights, but it isn't marked well. Fortunately there aren't any splitting paths coming off the north loop except for a climb to a bench lookout, so you won't get lost if you stay on the trail.
There's free trailhead parking...
Read moreWe loved the trails at Coxheath Hills. The red trail is rated moderate which I think applies to the joggers running up the hill, not the rest of us. It is a tough climb if you aren't in great shape. We aren't, but we took it as a challenge. We made it to the top and the views were 100% worth it. We decided to complete the purple trail and head back down. The purple trail was so much easier. Beautiful forest trail, easily followed, with loads of mushrooms, butterflies and birds along the way. We could not find the yellow trail, we think we figured out where one end of it is. It is overgrown and might get more use if there was a sign or something near the entrances. We will deffinitely walk the trails again on our...
