The city has plans to run the green line train through this lovely area, there are signs posted all over the pathway as you approarch the part of the path that runs behind the golf course and Lafarge. This will effectively terminate its beauty and general appeal to both the wildlife residing in the area (So thoughtful of the city to consider how their decision will drive another area left for the wildlife within the city limits, especially when you think about the insignificant fraction of city that has been left to protect their right to survival as it is.....) and the people who frequent it.
(I suppose the notion of preserving alberta's wetlands has become passay, it's not trendy anymore or a source of revenue to protect the survival of any species or it's natural habitat, aside from our own, of course.)
God forbid they drop a train station anywhere near this area! The results of a decision like that would be disgusting. Think of the encampments, and presence of filthy fentanyl addicts this will draw into the area! Way to go city planning committee! You are always focused on the profits from progress before ever considering the possible damage those profits...
Read moreQuiet nice place to go for a walk. I saw a deer and her two babies down here a couple times in the last week or so. I love dogs, but it would be nice if they didn't chase the deer here. The park is still partly closed due to some environmental cleanup from the old refinery which had been on the hill. Due to the partial closure you can't ride through the park to/from downtown. I think the park is scheduled to fully reopen Winter 2016.
In addition to the deer there are a variety of bird species here. I've seen woodpeckers, sand pipers, pelicans, and others. The pelicans hang out on a gravel bar at the south end of the park. They're not always there and seem to be there more after 5 or 6 pm. I imagine they'll be migrating south a again in the...
Read moreThe Rotary/Mattamy Greenway, I only have the video I can't upload here of me doing a face plant in the sand, on my Scooter down by the River. 10 inch wheels and sand or gravel bad but I love this area and ride the trails on my daily rip. I still encounter people not leashing their dogs. Please leash your animals it's dangerous for people and your dogs on trails and please stay on the right side of path whichever direction your going. I see a lot of people walking on wrong side of path coming at me. Wrong! Don't do this it will cause accidents and I will yell at you and say your going to cause an accident. Let's be respectful and aware. I've riden these trails for over 20 years and they are 10x Busier now than ever. Love this area and recommend a...
