Le Buttereau Trailhead is a popular hiking destination in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The trail offers stunning views of the Chéticamp River and Gulf of St. Lawrence, as well as the opportunity to learn about the history of the area.

The trail is approximately 4.6 kilometers long and is rated as easy. It is well-marked and can be completed in about 1.5 hours. The trail begins at the Le Buttereau Trailhead parking lot and follows an old cart path that was once used by the Acadian settlers. The trail winds through a spruce forest, old fields, and foundation ruins.

Along the way, you will find interpretive signs that tell the story of the Acadian settlers who once lived in the area. You will also see stunning views of the Chéticamp River and Gulf of St. Lawrence.

The Le Buttereau Trailhead is a great place to enjoy the outdoors and learn about the history of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. I highly recommend this trail to anyone...

First 500 m is great. Moderate to easy level of forest hiking in upcoming 3.5 km, views are identical, nice nature hiking but as for a 3 hours experience it was just a normal trail, you have to decide if you want to spend 3 hours here. To be noted Vieux Chemin du Cap Rouge and Cap Rouge is different and bit far, this one is the old chemin that lead you to...

Our first trail as we started our tour of the Cabot Trail. There’s a lengthy & steep incline right off the start of this trail. It really tested us. But once you are up top there’s some great views of the beach and the remnants of an old French settlement. The foundations of 4 homes can be found about halfway into this trail. I think we did this one in...

One of the first scenic spots you see along the Cabot trail when opting to go clockwise. It has a beautiful scenic spot to view, at the trailhead. I did not complete the trail this time around. Last time I did it gassed me as it’s a steep uphill and quite challenging though short. To get here you need a park pass applicable for all vehicle members.
