Le Buttereau Trailhead is a popular hiking destination in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The trail offers stunning views of the Chéticamp River and Gulf of St. Lawrence, as well as the opportunity to learn about the history of the area.
The trail is approximately 4.6 kilometers long and is rated as easy. It is well-marked and can be completed in about 1.5 hours. The trail begins at the Le Buttereau Trailhead parking lot and follows an old cart path that was once used by the Acadian settlers. The trail winds through a spruce forest, old fields, and foundation ruins.
Along the way, you will find interpretive signs that tell the story of the Acadian settlers who once lived in the area. You will also see stunning views of the Chéticamp River and Gulf of St. Lawrence.
