Great Place to have a hike and a picnic. The Cape George Lighthouse is perched at the top of Cape George Point which overlooks the waters of St. George’s Bay. Interpretive panels are on site. Cape George Point Lighthouse is one of three trailheads for the Cape George Hiking Trail network.
The present lighthouse was built in 1968 and it is the third lighthouse built on this site. It is 45 feet (14m) high with a group flashing (12s) electric light. It stands approximately 360 feet above the bay and both Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island are visible on a clear day.
Built in 1861 and set on top of a wooden house, the first light was destroyed by fire in 1907. A second lighthouse and keeper’s homestead complete with some farm and a vegetable garden was constructed in 1908. Read moreWhat a beautiful lighthouse! Way above sea level which an amazing ocean view. Watch out on your way on Lighthouse Rd as it is almost a single lane dirt road with some tight corners. The view compensates thou! There are some picnic tables in a nice and beautiful wooded area. Some benches to relax watching the tiny vessels pass by. No washroom or designated parking, just leave the car where you want. It is maintained by the community so, leave a penny by the lighthouse door to support this amazing...

It was pouring rain and foggy when I first arrived but settled to just a sprinkle after a few minutes. Beautiful view from the lighthouse and no one was there.
