🎨Gorgeous Art - Culture, History, and Tradition🎨
I got to tour Cuivres d'Art Albert Gilles Boutique et Musée as part of a tour group coming from the cruise port. Knowing nothing about the boutique beforehand, I went in eager to engage in a new experience and was so surprised by its rich history. Albert Gilles lent his talent to (among many other artistic achievements) the cathedral doors of Sanctuaire Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré (which was also part of the tour). The boutique's interior showcases equally stunning embossed/enameled copper masterpieces (some of which are available for purchase). The most awe-inspiring collection is the Christorama, a series of 50 panels telling the story of Christ, which took over 15 years to complete.
As part of the museum tour, I saw a live demonstration of copper-based art-making and explored the boutique's various artworks. I captured a few pieces with my camera, but the images pale compared to the in-person experience. A must-visit for artisans, but those with a fascination for history, culture, or divinity (especially if you've just come from Sanctuaire Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré) will find themselves pleasantly enriched by...
Read moreIf you're heading to the Saint-Anne-de-Beaupré Shrine then you should stop in here first because Albert Gilles was the man behind the repousée work on the enormous doors of the basilica. He passed away a while back and now his daughter and grand-daughters are keeping the art of repousée alive. Some of the works on display are particularly impressive - the most unforgettable part of your visit will be the story of christ as told by Albert Gilles on a series of about four dozen repousée panels displayed in a dedicated room at the back of the museum. A wide range of pieces are on sale, from affordable copper jewelry to pieces which are so impressive you don't even ask the price. Stop in and visit - the story of christ is impressive and when you get to the basilica you'll be all the...
Read moreThis seems to mainly be a place that tour groups come. I thought it was gonna be one of those tacky tourist trap places, but it was actually really interesting. In addition to the shop/showcase there is a free museum devoted to copper art from around the world. They don't pressure you to buy anything and it was really interesting hearing the story of the guy who started the place. What's cool is this is still a working shop run by his daughters. This place truly is one of a kind. I only know of one other copper art museum in Arizona, so there may very well only be two in the entire world. Definitely recommend for lovers of religious art or just art, or for people just looking to meet some real Quebecers and experience some true...
