Great spot to stop on a road trip - close to the 20/401 and so interesting.
The grounds are very well maintained - it's a beautiful park. Lots of open lawn and some trees and picnic tables if you want.
It's neat to go to the gun placements and see how well the river was covered, to control navigation. The fortifications with the very practical supply boat docking facilities were also neat to think about.
Staff was super friendly and interested in talking about the site. Much appreciated.
Negative? Umm, the men's room toilet is hard to flush. Seems a bit busted. Also be warned that the visitors centre w/ the washroom may not be open...
Read moreA very nice old monument to the past. More signage at specific sites at the park where events or buildings were would be great. This was another Parks Canada where it was a bunch of kids working that didn't really seem to know what they were doing. Their were a couple that were enthusiastic and helpful. Others we encountered that just shy'd away from us. Maybe because we were speaking English and they weren't comfortable engaging. We have ran into that a few times as well. Read moreThis is a very nice place to walk and have a picnic; there are also small snack places to grab a bite to eat near by. There is an entrance fee in summer but there are historical items and a story to learn from the employees on site in the display area indoors. You can see the old canal that was used to supply the fort back in the day. Take the time to visit the the old mill and dam site just to the east of the park, more history to see at no cost.
