Cow Head Lighthouse — Attraction in Cow Head

This was my favourite trail during the entire trip. It is located in the Gros Morne area and because I am still dealing with knee issues, there is a limit to the types of trails I can do. This one was perfect because it was groomed, marked and just enough of a challenge for me to push myself while enjoying myself on this lovely trail. It is mostly in the woods and it’s nice to go through the wood and just be still and quite away from some of the more busy places and trails. This location is the historical summer homes area of many of the locals and they must have used the same trails we were! Hiking through the woods is nice when it’s mixed with the open space of a field where the locals’ children once played and there is a chance to walk even further towards the shoreline to see the ocean.

Drive to the end of the main road leading into Cow Head, which will take you past beautiful views of beaches and the ocean vistas. You will find signs that lead you to a parking area where the trail head is clearly marked. We were surprised to find the lighthouse surrounded by trees and no visible to the ocean. Nice little (tiny actually) lighthouse that is found after a little hike from a car park. The hike itself is really easy, along a well maintained path with stairs, etc. Walk to the lighthouse itself is about 10 or so minutes from the car park, but I really recommend pressing on to the Point of the Head, which is quite stunning.
