I have camped at this park park since I was a kid, and while it's still one of my absolute favorite places to camp; it breaks my heart to see how much our provincial government has robbed funding for our department of natural resources.

It really shows in just how much the facilities have been downgraded, closed, or abandoned. there were beautiful manicured picnic areas that are now so overgrown you would never know they were there, outhouses that are completely overgrown and derelict, I've noticed that the fence that used to run the length of the beach to protect the dunes is gone, and they're running on a skeleton staff. no crews on site to properly maintain the grounds, just enough to check campers in and out, sell firewood and ice, and clean the washrooms.

That being said, it is a beautiful place to camp, a beautiful place to visit, a beautiful place to explore, with lots of services. Washrooms, showers, canteen, lifeguards, the only downside is that it's a long walk from the parking lot to the beach, which is annoying if you have a lot of gear to haul in or out. Little risser's campground sits right on the beach, so if you're camping and you want to avoid this walk it is best to get a site there.

Sperry's Beach, Green Bay Beach, and Crescent Beach are all within 5 minutes of risser's and are all easily accessible and offer parking either directly adjacent to, or right...

Located on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, 30 minutes from Bridgewater down the famous Salmon fishing LaHave River heading towards Liverpool, you'll find 1 of 3 beaches, each very different, located in very close proximity to each other: Crescent Beach, Rissers Beach and Green Bay.

Rissers Beach Provincial Park has 2 campgrounds. One which is located adjacent to the oceans edge and the other is on the North side, across the road and a 5 minute walk from the ocean. Both sides book incredibly fast and it will be highly unlikely you'll be able to drop by and get an open site, so it is necessary to plan if you want to stay at this incredible location. It's the perfect place to use as a base to explore the region and enjoy the magnificent beaches.

I highly recommend visiting their web site to view the offered services and amenities available as a Provincial Park Camp...

One of the many beautiful beaches along the South Shore. This is open of the most popular in terms of camping and swimming. Park in the day parking area and follow the path under the highway which leads you to the boardwalk. Take the boardwalk to the far end of the beach or go directly to the change rooms and further to the ramps to the beach. The park includes washrooms, showers, and a small canteen for the basic chips and ice cream. Many electric hookups for trailers, plus campaign areas that are just feet from the beach but those are spoken for very quickly. A local store a kilometre away carries everything you need including local produce and baked goods, plus a liquor outlet , propane, ice,and gas station. There is also a pub even closer that is open Thursday to Sunday starting at noon. A 1 1/2 hour drive...

We were introduced to this campground by our outdoor group, and have loved it every time we stay here. Some people like the open, unpowered sites right on the beach, and we like the powered spots across the road in the trees. There are trails running through and lots of places to explore in this area. The only complaint I have is the same one I have with almost all campgrounds: That they put the best washrooms facilities in the powered site section with the TVs where none of them need it because they have their own private washrooms, while the tenters just have one old outhouse in their section. Disgraceful. I need to take over design planning for upcoming campgrounds. This would never happen. Other than that, this place is as great a campground as you can get.

Rissers is a wonderful stalwart of Nova Scotia beaches. Fine textured, white sand make the beach oh so walkable while the gentle (usually) surf makes it very approachable. Certainly not very warm water, you'll have to get used to this to enjoy the water at most NS saltwater beaches. The facilities at the park are fantastic with a canteen operating the whole summer during the most in demand hours, with teens slinging an expected fare of pizza, fries, poutine, and ice cream. Be aware, the beach gets Busy on weekends, still within easy daytripping distance of the city, but parking is plentiful and even when that seems busy, the beach is Large enough to accommodate many more.
