It could have been a pleasure journey but we had terrible experience. Went for a walk this past weekend with seniors and kid. Thought the 3km loop trail would be fine for them, well, not true. We went clockwise starting from the paved road, then along the lake. it was easy, and the view is just beautiful. Things turned ugly from the turning point at the 2km split going back to parking lot. First there is NO sign or any direction suggesting we should turn from where. We just followed the trail and went beyond the split to the 8km trail. Only found that when I checked gps on phone and we already went quite far. We had to head back to the split point. We then followed the loop back to parking lot. Shortly into the trail, there is no sign or marking again and we all stranded in the wood with no sign of trail. Imaging we had to climb up and down hills and walking in the woods, muddy swamps and see no way of getting back to trail, with seniors and kids made this extremely difficult. We were panicing and hopeless and sun was setting. It is also true the mosquitos will eat you alive, even we all had bug spray they won't stop biting. In the end we had to rely on the compass to walk across the woods to the highway. Felt relieved when we heard the highway traffic and followed highway back to the parking. My suggestion, just go along the lake till the 2km point and go back. Don't go into the woods especially in the summer. I have never been bitten so badly by mosquitos and...

Read moreI went for a hike last Saturday. I parked my car in the parking lot but I was one of the last cars that could find a spot. There are only about 12 spots or so in the lot, and I got there around 11 in the morning. By the time I left, there were many cars parked along hwy 169 because there was no space in the small lot. After looking at the hiking map, I took the shortest hike I could, starting from the parking lot on hwy 169. The hike that I did took me 2 hrs (return) at a fairly brisk pace. I hiked out to the island in the middle of the lake and then back. The trail is marked pretty well with the blue Muskoka trail markers and also the white Bruce trail markers. HOWEVER, there were quite a few times, when I had to sto and check my gps to see where exactly I was, as the trail seemed to disappear and/or was NOT clearly marked by any tree markers. Luckily there were other people on the trail and I was able to either wait to see what direction someone came from or I just looked at my gps to figure out what direction I needed to go in. Other than this, the trail was definetly up and down, not flat at all, and if you have mobility issues I would not recommend taking this hike/trail as it could be difficult. It was a beautiful hike out to the island which is very pretty and serent. I will definitely come back in the fall to see the change of...
