We were touring Canada in 2015 and our cousin wanted to visit Sugarbush Hill Maple Farm, initially I was reluctant as we had limited time in the area. However, it turned out to be one of everyone’s favourite highlights of the whole tour. The Maple Farm is set in a beautiful location in amongst a large maple forest and the farm house’s design complimented its surroundings and is finished off with a bright red roof.
You have to pre-book the tour, which works well as there wasn’t too many people. I thought this was a good idea as this tour is educational and inspirational, so you’ll want to hear everything. I was surprized to learn how much work is involved in obtaining and creating this most delicious syrup. In short, the tour was very entertaining, interesting and was as much visual as spoken.
Next we enjoyed a tasting of the different strengths of maple syrup, simply delicious ;-)
Next, we were offered the chance to buy all sorts of products made with maple syrup. Our kids bought all kinds of maple syrup type sweets including maple syrup candy floss. We bought the largest bottle of the darkest maple syrup, which we worked out was about half the price we would have paid in the UK for similar volume. But we have never tasted a maple syrup in the UK that tasted as good as Sugarbush Hill Maple Farm syrup. We even had to buy an extra suitcase to get it home.
We only used that maple syrup at Christmases, birthdays and other important days and thanks to the advice given at the farm, the last bit of maple syrup tasted as good as the first drop.
I highly recommend this tour, we were a party of five of differing ages and tastes and it was one of the only things we agreed on, Sugarbush Hill Maple Farm Tour was brilliant and so is there...
Read moreMe and my buddy were riding through the twisties in the summer heat, and the only thing on our minds were ice cream. When we saw the signs posted outside this maple farm we couldn't resist. We were welcomed by the world's friendliest dog then by the nicest people serving the best ice cream I've ever had. The ice cream costs $6 for a cup/can. It sounds pricey but both quantitatively and qualitatively they are totally worth it. The can is about the size of one those Greek yogurt cans. And the ice cream itself is more cream than ice. The two cans were sitting in the sun for some 5 minutes (as I sort out the payment. Cash is preferred and I didn't have cash, so I had to E-Transfer the money) and they didn't even melt. They were so ridiculously thick and creamy I broke the plastic spoon trying to scoop it out. The maple syrup taste actually comes from maple syrup rather than "Artificial flavors" like many other "maple syrup flavored" ice cream. Knowing this place exists, I don't mind riding 200 kilometers from Toronto to get a taste of this...

It’s a very interesting place for you to learn more about the production of maple syrup. The owner Tom was very friendly, shared some great stories with us. Unfortunately due to pandemic, they have a small table set up right outside their store entrance for people to order and purchase their products, there isn’t a store where you can walk around to check out the products.
We were able to try their maple ice cream, which was very unique. In addition we purchased some maple mustard, maple bbq sauce and a maple cheesecake. Really like the taste the cheesecake, in a way the flavour is quite similar to the maple ice cream, well duh maple syrup right. Yes but we do like the cheesecake, they only sell it in frozen whole cake, not selling by slice.
Also, there is this trail right next to it where you can see the maple trees and the whole connection on how the sap is extracted. Very interesting, learned a lot new stuff.
They are closed for winter, so make sure to go or else you go to wait...
