Fort Carlton is a beautiful location there is no doubt about it. However after driving an hour to get there, and with Google listing the historical site as open until after the long weekend in September we were greeted by staff that let us know the site was closed for the season two weeks earlier than normal, and we would be unable to have access to Fort Carlton.
She was very helpful and pointed us toward a public hiking trail we were able to enjoy. However, we are very disappointed that the scheduling staff closed the site weeks early so our family could not enjoy the tour and buildings. There was another family there at the same time as us getting the same bad news. I would imagine the staff will be having that conversation often and taking on the brunt of the scheduling decision.

The park offers a marked wheelchair accessible parking spot, and easy entry into the visitor center. But, unfortunately, the washrooms in the visitor center are not wheelchair accessible, even though they are clearly marked as being wheelchair accessible.
