This is a great park. I have come here several times for hiking and really enjoyed it. The most recent time though, I brought my mother who is in a wheelchair, and although there are signs on all the restrooms that they are “accessible”, the park management seems to have gone out of their way to make the boardwalk very difficult to traverse on a wheelchair. They have placed extra raised boards every three or four feet which makes it a really bumpy ride on the wheelchair, and difficult to travel on. I have no idea what those extra boards are for, as they seem to serve no purpose other than being completely non-wheelchair friendly. They aren’t even need for structure, as the boardwalk is solid without them. I bent down to inspect on and I was able to peel it off with no problem, and the boardwalk underneath was perfect, and solid. I took multiple photos of the boards if you need to know what I am talking about. This really diminished our enjoyment of the park. Other than that, I love this park and the area in general. The beach is lovely and the sand dunes and nature reserve surrounding it are...
Read moreCompared to some of the other beaches in Nova Scotia I would give this a 3 to maybe a 3.5 at the most. It is quite picturesque when it comes to taking photos as there are larger waves crashing into the shore. It is considered to be one beach but it is really like there are really two separate beaches at this location. The first one is much smaller and nicer in my opinion as it did not have a lot of smaller stones on the beach. The sand is also quite nice, but on the larger beach ( or 2nd one you come to) there are quite a lot of smaller stones making it challenging to enjoy a walk in the sand with your bare feet, and of course the unavoidable seaweed which haunts most beaches. The sand is nice and it is a very long beach so worth while checking out, but not my favorite. It is no doubt Nova Scotia longest beach, but not the best...
Read moreMy husband and I enjoyed visiting Martinique Beach while visiting East Petpeswick! We were staying in an AirBnb less than ten minutes away and the hosts mentioned they own a surf shop nearby - we didn’t get the name of it, but keep an eye open for it!
Quiet, clean, with beautiful sandy beaches full of unique shells and rocks. There were tons of places for parking all along the outskirts of the beach, which is awesome considering how long the beach is (over 3 kilometres)! There are permanent outhouses and handwashing stations, although make sure you pack tons of water and snacks. There isn’t anything remotely nearby. Just prepare for a nice, long, relaxing day...
