This was my first time to go to both a historic and a live archaeological dig site to experience what it was like during the settlement. Amazing experience. The tour guide was excellent, knowledgeable, patient and answered all our questions. She brought us to each area and explained the significance and showed us exactly what to look out for. There is a small museum at the centre which had quite a lot of info. We spent about 2.5 hours total which could easily have stretched to 3, if not for the weather.

The tour guide was fantastic. He was so knowledgeable and cracked a bunch of jokes. The museum was large with a great collection of artifacts. The walk to the excavation site was easy and anyone can do it. Really enjoyed doing the guided tour. You can do it yourself but will miss out on all the information the guides provide.

Very interesting place to visit as it has a small interpretive Centre but a live archeological dig with an active lab was interesting. The guided tour with Anemone was the best - very friendly and informative. CBC initially kept us from the kitchen but we actually did get in at the end. Laurie was a hoot!

Very interesting and informative, and the staff and instructors are very knowledgeable and passionate about the material and they exemplify this in their superb presentation of the subject matter.

Archaeology is a very demanding field and what you find requires a lot of experience and training in order to interpret correctly, oftentimes with the only reward being your findings themselves and their significance to the bigger picture so if you're in that field then you've already shown you have what it takes.

I visited this site during my trip to St. John's, Newfoundland, from June 8th to June 15th, with three of my relatives and we were all pleasantly surprised by what the site and facilities had to offer us, and what we got out of it by the end of the day. I very highly recommend going here when you have the chance. You will not be...

History and archeology comes alive with a guided tour. You could wander around and look at the dig site and the many artifacts uncovered here, but with our guide Lulu, we learned so much background and context about the Colony and her own experience of growing up in a place where locals were always finding old objects and how one archeologist recognized the importance and changed the town forever. Lori was our guide in the kitchen who told us all about the way the colonists cooked over open fires in the hearth plus the dishware found on-site that was all imported from Europe or China. She also told us about the Colonial Cook-off challenge (recreating recipes from the 1700s) that sounds really fun and I'm going to check it out online next summer. Added bonus: a walk out to the lighthouse was even nice on...
