Lake Wolsey Cabins — Attraction in Gordon/Barrie Island

We stayed at Lake Wolsey cabins and we where extremely disappointed!!! First of all these are basic hunting or fishing camps, not a cottages. They where clean but the furnishings are old and well used. The price they are charging is outrageous, we stayed at the camp on the beach it was 160 per night plus 120 docking and 40 for my dog. Highway robbery! the so called office has nicotine dripping off the inside of the windows and is filthy, they smoke while you are in there. The games room is an old dirty shed with a pool table in it. The grounds and flowerbeds are over grown with weeds, broken benches outside of the washrooms. The biggest disappointment was from the owners themselves! From the moment we arrived we were constantly harassed by the owner Jamie telling us to pick up our dog feces, which we do! I asked what the $40 was for he said they have to spray the cabin after dogs been in there LOL I doubt it. The beach that everyone swims at is swarming with poison ivy so warning!I had a birthday dinner for my boyfriend with 12 people in attendance with ages ranging from 10 to 80 years old. I was unaware that I had to tell anyone about the party since I was paying for the cabin. Apparently on the webpage in very small print it says there’s an extra charge for vehicles and people. Instead of addressing this in a polite manner after my company had left, Jamie pulls up to my guests and Rips a strip into me for not informing him, in front of everyone! My guests happened to be business owners from the island and where mortified by his actions. He said we needed to pay them $150 for the guests and their vehicles, get this but took 100 cash.... I would sleep in a tent before I stayed...

Cabins r cute comfy enough clean everything works .running water , toilet, the stove , fridge , toaster , never used the microwave .wi-fi though .... Forget it .its just one of those rural things i guess .so like the huge bay is like 20feet from ur back door .nice !!!! So when we got there well our first full day ( cause we arrived late ) the weather was not so nice .a bit windy but the lake was super choppy , since we were fishi g from shore .( they do rent caoes and boats but my wife is afraid to go out on the water i think ) , the waves just blew our lines right back at us .fishi g kinda sucked .we drove around and found some flatter lakes and did some fishing .it was fun .that night the big rain they were calli g for finally hit .we sat on the back porch of the cabin and watched the storm it wad awesome and we never got wet .i honestly thought the lake was just a rough lake all the time but after the storm in the morning we woke up to a beautifull huge very calm gore bay and the fish were jumping everywhere .but fishing from shore is not ideal in my opinion ( rent the fn boat or canoe and go out there and get the big one lol .it waz a memorable couple of days we had a lot of fun .wolsey cabins isnt luxuiry but fun doesnt always have to be luxurios .i recommend this place .wish i had one more day there . .i think its up to u if u want fancy dont go here .its a trade off hotel room or a lake right in ur back yard thats the choice u...
