Thankfully caught the museum on its last day of the season. The seasonal display of "hooked rugs" was very interesting, glad not to have missed it. The permanent displays depicting what fishing was like in days past were equally good. Lots to see and will definitely be back next season to see what we missed as well as the new seasonal display. 2023 - season display was "Curiosities" a collection of artifacts that included Newfoundland money pre-joining Canada. Well worth the visit.

Have you seen a side sleigh before? Well, you can see several at this fantastic little Provincial Seamen’s Museum. Newfoundland fishing history all under one roof in a huge uniquely designed building. My favorite part was that all artifacts on display are numbered and there are laminated cards explaining approx date, material it was made out of and describing how it was used in the fishing industry.

Lovely museum, I learned so much about Newfoundland. Plenty of artifacts with awesome little flip books with correspondingly numbered pages with a description of each item. Lady working the counter was very sweet too. University student discount is 4$ too which is very nice. The building itself has some interesting architecture and history to it too!

A lot of interesting artefacts, but not enough clear explanation about it. And not enough organized information about social and economic aspects of fisheries in the area. There is probably something to say also about relations with foreign fishermen in the area. The museum of st pierre could be a good model for those topics (but, of course, from Newfoundland fisheries/fishermen viewpoint). Nevertheless worth visiting (after hiking...
