I have respect for their organization and what they do to help animals, but I must mention my professional opinion and truth based on recent interactions with Sandy Pines
They are people who seem to care, as most of the modern, fast paced systematic reality today operates with a lack of heart, and working/volunteering with these professions desensitizes the unaware individuals. When staff may be short at times and a lot of work to be done caring for wildlife, which would be stressful for the volunteers/those who work at these places, This is never too good and can lead to a lot
Beside the point, I've had a few occasions in the past. I rescued two turkeys at different occasions from a farmer that was neglecting his animals and brought them in to SPWC (Property aspects I did not care about as Animals are not property under True Law. A corrupt system where people respect and favor their pets and certain species but not others is bound to fall in time) The first time that I had arrived the lady questioned me, and I feel didn't have full trust or belief looking at me as if I was responsible or it was some joke or setup. They seemed worried about helping the animals, or getting involved in any drama/legal conflicts which is understandable, but should never be a concern upon an emergency where life is on the line
The first turkey I rescued from the farm was fully grown but still a young turkey that was isolated in a small cage, emaciated, and lost its abilities to stand up. The bird was in the cage anywhere from 4-6 days. I brought the bird to SPWC, knowing that he/she would have been able to survive, the bird was happy during the car ride knowing that he/she had a second chance at life. Months later upon follow up as I called SPWC I learned that they had euthanized the bird or so as they could remember. And this breaks my heart as that bird had potential to survive and regain walking ability. Perhaps it was judgment of myself and because of who I am, as an activist that made them care less. Some peoples minds on this earth do operate in some odd ways. I don't know the full story and I just pray the bird is OK and perhaps they got a mix up on what happened
The second turkey i rescued from this farm was an older turkey, left on a barn floor in the cold, couldn't walk due to it's legs having gave out, and passed away upon arrival to SPWC. I do appreciate their help in this scenario, and I felt awful having to bring the dying bird in the vehicle to the clinic for euthanasia . Unfortunately the farmer didn't care to get the bird proper help/vet care and I wouldn't have felt right or been able to humanely euthanize the bird myself, that I had became friends with and got to know over the course of a short period of time while at the property
These were all traumatic experiences that I wish I would not have had to had dealt with
I also found an injured baby bird at another later occasion and called SPWC, they sent a driver to pick up the bird but I had odd vibes from the lady who arrived
They are country/farmer associated, and probably associated with the type of people who set mouse traps, hunt etc and have a dark spot in a place where there shouldn't be. Until reality and the individuals wake up to unconditonal love for all and get back to the heart, even the places that you should be able to have full trust with, you still got to be weary and cautious. And that is a sad and negative part of this reality today and not the way it should be
Animals should be seen as individuals, as humans are, and not numbers. And this is regarding all of reality, I do appreciate Sandy Pines for their honest/good work but feel that this is review important to mention. There is always room for improvement especially in a field where love and life are on the line and every move is critical
Of course reviews are all positive here and I'm not worried about a reputation. Thanks for your assistance on previous occasions Sandy Pines, Sue and to the other lady's that volunteer their time to do honest and respectable...
Read moreI recently had an unfortunate, unprofessional, rude and deeply disappointing experience here. This centre, meant to care for and rehabilitate injured or orphaned wildlife, made a grave error that has shaken me.
We brought an injured bird home to try and save it from the outdoors. We called, and they seemed very charismatic at this time. They had volunteer drivers who were able to pick it up. After hours of waiting, they called me back, saying we had to keep the bird for the night but someone will come the next day. We understood and cared for the bird to our best ability, through the night you could see the bird seeming to be in less distress. The bird began to chirp and seemed to be feeling mildly better. We called in the morning again to make sure they could still come, but they said they weren't aware we still needed someone to come and we had to start that process all over again.
The staff still at this point seemed well-intentioned to some degree, but to my shock, I later discovered that the pigeon had been wrongfully euthanized. It turns out that this bird was not beyond help, and the decision to euthanize was made hastily without giving the animal the appropriate chance at rehabilitation.
It seems as though a decision was made without considering all available options, or perhaps even without properly assessing the bird’s condition. The bird could not fly, its wing was injured and was walking around the box on its legs without a struggle to drink the water we put in the box. When calling to see what was happening they said its leg was broken beyond repair and they euthanized it. Like I stated before the bird's legs were completely fine and it was walking on them while in our care.
Euthanizing an animal that could have been treated and potentially rehabilitated shows a lack of due diligence and consideration. I am left feeling that the staff either didn't have the proper training or simply didn't prioritize the animal's well-being.
As someone who deeply cares about animal welfare, this experience has left me questioning the practices at Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre. I needed to make sure people knew that there is a high chance that you would have rude, unprofessional staff as well as a lack of treatment. The mission of helping and healing wildlife should be executed with the utmost care, responsibility, and compassion—qualities that, unfortunately, seemed lacking in this situation. I would highly recommend never going here or...
Read moreCalled due to some pests in my garden (baby rabbits) and wondering if there was an option to relocate them. They were helpful in information that at the age the bunnies currently are, they were not able to be relocated as the bunnies would pass. However, the person I was speaking to was incredibly judgmental, essentially saying that if I brought the rabbits to the wildlife centre "the staff would have to kill them and no one would like me for that". Additionally, when I mentioned I could not keep them where they were for 3 more weeks (they are in a garden that needs planting, also they would the eat the garden so they cannot stay there), the person I was talking to was essentially scoffing and judging for not "inconveniencing" myself to save the lives of what are effectively garden pests. When I tried to find options for use of the bunnies, such as feeding snakes (morbid I know but if they are going to pass away if I move them, why not use them as food for other animals) they were horrified and incorrectly stated that live animals were not used as food (snakes will eat live mice and owls will eat live animals as well). Overall, I felt like the service was judgmental and not helpful...
