We camped at MacLeod Provincial Park from August 6th - August 10th, leaving early. The campground was beautiful, but could use some of the resources that other campgrounds have. We camped at a couple of other parks on the way home, and it was very evident that this park is underfunded and under staffed. I was also incredibly frustrated with the boil water advisory. Not in the advisory itself, things happen, but in the misinformation. The Ontario Parks website indicated there would be places throughout the park where we would be able to obtain clean water, when I contacted someone who worked for the park, they were not even aware that there was a boil water advisory, or how long I needed to boil the water. There were two other issues that we encountered, which is why we left early, one was noise. There were three families with a total of about 10 kids between them. While I can appreciate the sounds of others using the park, this was very excessive, at one point in time there was a child who screamed for two hours straight, starting at about 7 am, with no one making an effort to attend the child or move them indoors, and another instance where one of the parents walked up and down one of the roads banging a pot with a spoon yelling its time to put your pajamas on, around 11 pm. These were not the only times that noise was an issue, just two examples. The noise was fairly constant from about 7 am to 11 pm, despite their being signs up asking people to be mindful of noise, etc. The other campers around us were fabulous. This same family had dogs off leash, who would often walk into our campsite. Our dogs have been attacked by neighbour dogs at home, and didn't respond well to these dogs coming at them. We ended up not being able to tie our dogs out when we were outside as we never knew when these dogs were going to come around. All of this happened in front of park staff. These other campers held 'seasonal' passes. It appeared that if you were a seasonal permit holder the rules didn't apply the same way they did if you were just staying for a week. Though we enjoyed hiking the trails outside of the park and the drive to MacLeod, we...
Read moreLots of very large sites with plenty of wooded privacy. Many are also pull through sites in the loop with electricity. Beautiful non hydro sites right in the water offer excellent views. The Park is much larger than it seems when you look at the park map because every site is spaced very far apart. We saw a lot of seasonal sites booked and can see the attraction to this park since it is right off highway 11 and very close to Nipigon, Geraldton, and Long Lac Ontario. Kenogamisis lake is huge with many arms reaching out so if you fish, canoe, kayak this would be a heavenly place to spend a summer. We spent only 2 night here as our destination is Sleeping Giant so Macleod is a great mud way point for us to stay between Renée Brunelle and Sleeping Giant. Would definitely...
Read moreWorst Provincial Park in Ontario. No working showers. Terrible outhouses. Poorly placed hook ups, so you better have an extension cord. Water fill station was on the wrong side. No playground. Not all sites are large. We asked to change sites after arriving and seeing how ridiculously narrow and small ours was and the staff working the front gate was unimpressed and complained that it was too difficult for her to change. She eventually did change our site to a larger one, so thats nice. We stayed at 10 Provincial Parks over three weeks travelling through Ontario and this was by far the worst...
