Every single animal was aware of us humans and made a connection with us, which was so very beautiful in the saddest haunting way imaginable. It was not a natural connection, but mechanical, because they were desperate for salvation and looked to their captors for freedom. I was almost in tears the entire walk through.
Sad to see wild animals locked up with very little shelter from the cold winter wind brought by the nearby lake. Most animals were pacing or hiding in corners as their own shelters were open without doors and were facing the frigid lake. The bear cubs were awake and lively in a tiny cement enclosure for the winter. The moose, reindeer, and caribou followed us the entire length of their seperate enclosures to be able to get some feed (all the animals get the same pellet feed from coin dispensers, do they normally eat that in the wild??). They also do not warn you anywhere to have change for these machines.
The wolves were antsy and attacking eachother between howls. All the animals had a look of desperation in their eyes. The cougar was all by himself and trying to play with us, jumping around his toys and following us with his tail wagging, probably excited to see people in his remote corner of the park without any other animals around.
The bobcats started yelping a terribly sad song after we left them, a sound I had heard before in the woods and never knew to be a bobcat. That song is still in my head as I write this now, when the visit was a few weeks ago.
This does not seem to be a nature preserve as much as a poorly advertised and out of the way zoo (probably to avoid bylaws and regulations). Do not recommend going if you are an animal lover ! Will post...
Read moreTook my teenager and infant with my fiance and was so deppressed and disapointed afterwards. The three of us have such happy memories of this place and were excited to share the experience with our newest edition. Sadly we were greeted with a lot of empty , rusted out and run down enclousers. A lot of the water in enclousers was beyond dirty. The bears had little to no water and were visabaly warm. I sware the wolf looked into my soul, I felt so bad for some of these animals. I understand that the park is funded by community support so we have been looking into doing our part to preserve this wild life facility in hopes that it can be restored to its former glory and not the basically zoo like structure that it is currently. Very sad indeed. We have found foundraising pages, adopt an animal pages and sponsorship and encourage others with the same negative experiences to reach out and help. I recomend that the owners of the site make it easier to find these pages to donate as it was a search. In the mean time please give your animals more clean water to drink and to swim in, especially on hot days. Shame on the college who...
Read moreReally great walking experience. Its a nice trail to see all the animals that can be found in canada. And you can buy treats at the front desk to feed the reindeer/caribou. I had a great time. We didnt see the white tail deer and the moose but the caribou was the sweetest. It followed me along the whole stretch of fence because i gave it treats. Its not overly expensive so i say its a great place for kids, animal lovers, and people who just want a walk.
Highly recommend this place. And please buy 2-4 bags of treats at the front desk. Its worth it.
(Dont trust the treat dispensers on the trail. Most of them are broken/empty)
For all the negative reviews that say the animals look sad and they shouldnt be im a cage. All the animals at this park were either raised in captivity or got rehabilitation. These animals cannot survive in the wild. They need the care of the zoo. And the zoo provides the animals with spaces out of site of humans so they can get some privacy and breaks from us. Its good for...
