Excellent hike through the forest with a wonderful beach at end as your reward!
Hike itself is about 2km. Lots of up and down hill, so be prepared and wear running shoes at the very least! No sandals!
Lots of stairs within the trail to help maneuver through some of the more treacherous areas. I wouldn't recommend this trail for the elderly or very young children. Kids aged 5 + shouldn't have a problem. I did see a couple hiking through with their newborn however, so to each their own!
It took about an hour to reach the beach, and this was with 4 able bodied people walking at a fairly quick pace. We set out on a Monday, early afternoon and ran into a fair amount of people.
The trail is well marked with orange markers in the trees 🌳. There is also a very fun suspension bridge about halfway through or so. Don't look down if you're scared of heights! If you run on the bridge, it will sway, so take your time and walk steadily to avoid scaring others. The bridge itself appears very well built, and has high sides with thick cables.
Mystic Beach is worth the trip! Lots of pretty shells 🐚 and rocks to be seen. There's a lovely waterfall on the beach front as well. Only downside is you have to walk back the same way you came. (Wasn't a big deal for us - just warning you it's not a loop trail)
Mystic Beach: A Wild Beauty Accessible from Juan de Fuca Trailhead
Mystic Beach on Vancouver Island offers a breathtaking combination of rugged coastline and hidden wonders. Here's a quick guide to help you decide if it's the perfect beach adventure for you:
Thumbs up for:
Stunning Beach: Soft sand, dramatic scenery, and a cascading waterfall (visible at low tide) create a truly unforgettable scene. Moderate Hike: The trail that leads to Mystic Beach starts from the Juan de Fuca trailhead parking lot. It's well-maintained but can get muddy and challenging, especially after rainfall. Keep an eye out for the cool suspension bridge along the way! Unique Experience: Explore tide pools, discover hidden caves (at low tide), and soak in the wild beauty of this special beach.
Things to consider:
The Hike: This is a moderate hike, not a leisurely stroll. Expect uneven terrain with roots and mud, especially after rain. Proper footwear is essential! Limited Parking: The Juan de Fuca trailhead parking lot can fill up, particularly on sunny days. Arrive early to secure a spot. Potential Crowds: The beach itself isn't huge, and it can get busy during peak season.
Overall:
Mystic Beach is a gem for adventurous travelers who enjoy a challenging hike. If you're up for a moderate trek and crave a secluded beach experience, Mystic Beach won't disappoint! Just be prepared for potential crowds and...

A great spot for day use only with room for about 6 cars.I was using google to find the beach and as expecting a parking lot. There is a parking lot but at the Juan de Fuca Trail Head parking lot that will also take you to China Beach. I also use a topographical map when I can’t find a particular spot. At the trial head parking lot, then to the beach is much farther although because of knee problems,I look for the shortest route. From the short cut it’s less than a kilometer to Mystic Beach.Mystic Beach is fantastic with great views. Many other people think it’s a nice spot to hangout for the day. Take care...
