I recently visited ‘Doube’s Trestle Bridge’ in the Kawartha Lakes and thought I would share some pics.
I really enjoyed this as it was a beautiful walk. It is open 24hrs Mon-Sun and it is part of the Trans Canada Trail.
When you arrive everyone just parks on a wide shoulder of the road (It’s a two lane road) and when I was there the traffic was low (It was around 12-1pm during the week). There is no where else to park and it is free of course.
There is a sign at the entrance to the trail along with concrete barriers thus no vehicles or ATV’s.
The trail is bike friendly which I saw quite a few of and the riders were friendly to notify those on foot that they were approaching to which we would ensure we moved to the right side of the path for them to pass.
The trail appeared to be Limestone and we were surrounded by greenery as we entered. The terrain remained the same along the path until the infamous bridge.
It’s dog friendly (on leash) but I didn’t see any disposal units for… you know!
You will see a first bridge, but this is not ‘the bridge’.. I can’t say for certain the distance in Kilometres , but I’d say it was a good 20mins walk at a slower pace to get to the bridge. You CANT miss the bridge entry point.
The bridge sides appear to be made of steel and the boards look like composite.
You can walk the entire bridge in under 10mins , but the path continues after the bridge. I didn’t walk any further than the bridge ending as I unfortunately picked a day where the sun was scorching hot and the trek back to the truck seemed like 45mins.
Anyway, the views are Beauty and it wasn’t really scary on the bridge, I felt quite safe. I would definitely recommend a visit.
When I go back this time I am going to continue the trail to see how far it...
Read moreWe were excited to explore this area after seeing Tiktoks. However, just like many things on social media, the real thing did not live up to the hype.
We arrived and found parking on the side of the road, behind about 20 other cars. It's long trail so we parked at the next entrance to the bridge and walked over. The walk was okay, gravel for the most part. It's more of a dog walk type of trail with bushes and trees on the sides, instead of an actual nature trail hike that makes you feel like you are out in nature.
The bridge view was nice but what else do you do after you take a look over the side. There was bike station by the bridge, that had a tire pump and other tools for fixing basic bike issues.
Ultimately, I wouldn't go back or suggestion anyone go to it. However, I may bring a bike and see if I can do the...

Suggestion: try to take the backroads if you don’t mind the extra minutes in your ETA. It’s worth by the time you spend extra I bet ! Lovely and scenic route and also the bridge gives a 360 view of the valley.
Please note the bridge is just one spot on this trans Canada trail, if you choose to explore the trail, taking a bike would be more convenient as it’s a long trail is a stretch all the from the town of omemee and even goes further east from the bridge.
On the trail there’s a cute little spot where you’ll see a growing rock snake, if you’ve bring kids, bring a small rock or stone along to write something or paint it and keep it there to let the snake grow !!!
Just keep in mind, it’s a road side parking and limited not a lot of spaces, if you go during weekends or holidays - plan for it...
