What an amazing place to visit, make sure you get there early we were the first ones in the parking lot at around 9am but on our way back out we encountered at least ten groups and the parking lot was filling up. I wouldn't recommend this for a trip with smaller kids at least not the final portion I was even concerned about the adults I was with there is alot of dangerous rocky sections that someone can easily fall with one wrong step. The view is worth the walk though , there is a small section closed off due to renaturalization but they detour you around and it is well marked but it does add some distance to the hike, my Garmin watch measured 8.50km round trip . I am definitely glad I made the visit and if you do decide to go bring a plastic bag to pick up some Trash on the way, I was a little disheartened by the amount of garbage in the parking lot can't believe people choose to throw garbage everywhere especially in such a beautiful setting. Fyi we did see a mother bear and her cub so keep...
Read moreParking is $15, but you're actually buying a day permit for the whole park, so it gives you access to other trails, and the campsite, for the day. The parking itself has no services whatsoever, so go to the office further West if you need anything.
The trail itself is about 3h both ways, at a good pace, assuming 30 minutes worth of breaks in total. It could be done in 2.5h at a fast pace, with a 20 minute break at the top. Plan 4h if you want to take it slow.
Time wise, the first 65% or so is on a relatively flat (and at the beginning, wide) path. Then you start encountering more roots, rocks, and eventually large boulders, and some light "climbing" or "bouldering" (NOT actual rock climbing with equipment). Suitable for older children, and adults in relatively good shape. Still challenging for adults in shape. I found the second half quite fun.
The view at the top is pretty impressive; fairly high up, at least for Ontario. You'll see the bay, a few lakes, and the surrounding forest; almost a 360...
Read moreThe Crack Trail is one of the most stunning hikes I’ve done in Ontario. It’s about 6 km round trip, and while the first half is a fairly easy walk through the forest, the second half gets much more challenging. The trail lives up to its name with a steep climb through a massive crack in the white quartzite rock—definitely a bit of a scramble, but totally doable with good shoes and a bit of patience. The view at the top is absolutely worth the effort. You get an incredible panoramic view of Killarney’s lakes, ridges, and forest that feels straight out of a painting. It’s the perfect spot to catch your breath, have a snack, and take in the scenery. It’s not an easy hike, especially in the heat or if it’s wet, but if you’re up for a bit of a workout, it’s 100% worth it. Just bring water, wear proper footwear, and take your time. The Crack is a classic for a reason—and one of those trails you won’t forget...
