I had a great time there yesterday. I spent just under 2 hours on the "trails" and it's an experience that I'll never forget. First I made the mistake of forgetting to spray myself with bug spray and got eaten alive in the first 10-15 minutes. I had to head back to the Jeep to get some spray. After dousing myself in bug spray I marched back out onto the "trails". I'm a fan of Pokémon and decided to keep my mind distracted from the bugs while I enjoyed the great outdoors. I was surprised that not a lot of people were out but I also wasn't really mad about it. I however managed to creep myself out a few times because no one was around. I kept checking over my shoulder expecting a psycho to jump out and kill me. 😅 I survived as you can tell. I came across a woodpecker and watched it for a few minutes. It climbed up a tree and started to peck away. Hands down the best part of the outing. I found a beautiful spot by some water and took pictures before I crossed a bridge into a more wooded area. There were some hills which made things interesting because wearing a dress and low top converse shoes was my ideal choice to wear. You never know where you might snag your future spouse. 😉 The wooded area was so peaceful. So peaceful that I came across 5 turkeys just walking around. I thought it would be pretty cool to take some pictures. I walked around to another spot but they back tracked. As I walked back I heard a sound coming from the other side of the trail. As I waited and focused my eyes they landed on a small skunk. I was so delighted as if I just became a Disney princess. I tried to get a picture but it was just too hard. The turkeys came out onto the trail at that moment and it was a perfect shot. As I stepped closer another skunk came out of the same side of the trail as the other one. When that skunk turned it's butt towards me I turned and ran! I thought that I made a clear get away but I was wrong! There were two little skunks right beside the trail and we scared the poop out of each other. 🤣 They ran one way and I ran another! I decided it was time to hurry up with my exploration. Pls remember that I'm still following the Pokémon map while this is all happening. There was a big loop that would lead me back to the entrance of the park which was perfect. I walked the trail which lead me out of the woods and I was so happy to be away from all the Woodland creatures. The sun was shinning, birds were singing and a nice breeze. I was back in my happy place. There was a big hill I had to trek up but it was worth it. A Blue Huron flew in towards a large pond. So majestic! I continued on the trail and noticed that the path was becoming smaller and the brush became thicker. Lots of wild flowers and bumble bees flying around. I did my best not to disrupt their natural habitat and move along quietly until I couldn't. I eventual found myself picking up my dress, apologizing to the bee's and high stepping through the brush. Mind you I was only 1/4 through the loop. I put so much effort into getting there that I forced myself to go on. There was no possible way it could get worse... But it did! The brush got so think that there was barely a trail and the weeds were having their way with my legs. I kicked things into high gear before my anxiety took over and pushed through. I ended up all the way by Fischer-Hallman!!!! I'm sure the people in their vehicles had the best laugh as they saw me struggling out of the bush. I refused to look at the cars and held my head high as I walked up the road. It was a much needed break. Unfortunately, due to construction there was no way back to the trails. I had to walk all the way around to Trillium and the conversation area. I was absolutely done by the time I got back to the Jeep. Did this experience curb my love of walking trails? Absolutely not! I plan on going back but taking a different trail. There are so many that you can take. I rate this a 10/10! 😁

This is a fantastic place to spend some time outdoors. There are many trails to explore, with multiple ponds, an accessible paved pathway, as well as storybook pathway for children. Most of the trails are easy to traverse and there is plenty of local wildlife to discover. If you're patient and conditions are right, you can even feed some chickadees (you'll need to bring your own seed). There's also a natural playground that kids young and old love to play on, free parking on-site, and bathroom facilities available. There's also a mini-interpretive centre with a few plaques with information on the history of the area and on the indigenous people and their way of life (how they corralled and hunted wildlife, fished, worked the land, etc.). I've been many times over the years, including during the winter months, and I always love my time there, especially with the kids. We are lucky to have this natural area in our community, and I will continue to visit it in the years to come.

I visited this park for the first time yesterday and I absolutely loved it. The trails are plentiful, well marked, and well maintained. I do photography for a hobby, focusing ;) on insects and small creatures, and this was a treasure trove of subjects from dragonflies to frogs to bees to butterflies. All plentiful. There is no agent on duty at the park but there are washrooms at the entrance, which are open from 9:00 a.m. to dusk. I was disappointed to see litter strewn around the washroom area (where there are picnic tables) when a trash can sat less than 10 yards away. Come on, people! To sum up: If you love nature, you will love Huron Natural Area.
