We stumbled upon this activity accidentally. It seemed a cool thing to do, so we inscribed our family of 2 adults and 4 kids (15, 12, 10 and 8). The guided tour consists of 2 parts: 1 tour in the cave and 1 tour above ground visiting caves-in-the-making etc. The tour underground was educational and amazing, but physically challenging at points, especially for the kids. Steep declines and inclines can be demanding and scary. Our youngest was too scared to climb down on the way back, but the guide stayed with him and helped him through it safely, which we very much appreciated 👍🏻😊. The tour above ground was informal, relaxed, educational and a lot of fun. We got to visit different stages of caves-in-the-making, nature in and around caves and crevices and even a newly discovered cave! 😁 Both guides were knowledgeable, very kind and fun. I highly recommend this activity, but the tour in the cave is not for families with very young kids or people with reduced mobility of any kind. Also, wear old but warm clothing; you’ll come out looking like you did some mud wrestling 😂
When you go to the office to get information or inscribe yourself for the guided tours, stop at the cantine next door for lunch or dinner. I’ve never had a warmer welcome or better pizza...
Read moreOur recent visit to the Grottes de la Rédemption was an absolute highlight of our Gaspésie trip! This place is a true hidden gem offering a fascinating journey both above and below ground.
Descending over 46 meters (around 150 feet!) into Quebec's deepest accessible cave was an incredible experience. The via ferrata system added a touch of adventure while feeling completely secure. Our guide was fantastic, providing insightful explanations throughout the 1.5 to 2-hour tour. What really struck me was seeing a fossil within the cave walls (as shown in my photo). Our guide explained it was a remnant from a time when this area was covered by a warm sea – mind-blowing to think about these formations dating back 400 million years!
The experience wasn't just underground; the tour also included visits to impressive surface formations, with our guide offering equally knowledgeable explanations about their creation. Be sure to dress warmly, as the temperature inside the cave is a consistent 3.7°C (around 39°F).
If you're looking for a unique and enriching experience in Gaspésie, the Grottes de la Rédemption are a must-visit. The combination of adventure, geological history, and expert guidance makes it truly unforgettable.
Highly, highly...
Read moreWe visited in September, after the summer holiday rush. Alain was our guide and we seriously couldn't have asked for anyone more experimented! The man was actually there back in the 60s and 70s when they dug up the cave so he knows EVERYTHING there is to know! His ability to transmit his passion into a 3h tour is amazing (and keep us interested because there's a lot of technical terms and we didn't know anything about geology/geography etc). I highly recommend this tour to those who aren't afraid of the dark or tight spaces, and expecially to those who love a good...
