Highly recommend it here for traveling through Labrador.
It’s a nice little museum, they have great local crafts, they are near a Walmart and small mall if you need to pick up essentials and most importantly Lydia and Shauna in the office are great. Very kind, very helpful and very friendly. We have been here longer than planned due to the fires in Quebec and they have been very helpful navigating that situation.
We have a 42 foot RV and we fit just fine. They are in the process of actually building full service RV sites and tent sites. Currently the spots are done but the services are not yet connected.
They currently have the following (but will be actual full hook up for RVs when done):
-easily accessible potable water -15 am plug access at side of building free wifi dump station down the road
Currently it is free to park here, but they do ask for a donation to help with their day to day expenses as they are not GVT funded. Please donate if you stay guys!!
When the RV sites do open (date unknown) there will be a charge. But truly it is way nicer here than the other local campground- so it is worth it.
Access to a few short hiking trails is also nice, as well as the Smokey Mountain Ski Center (hiking...
Read moreGreat warm welcome to Labrador after completing Route 389 from Québec. The British girl, Lydia, was very helpful, kind and knowledgeable and gave me a lot of good and useful information about Labrador City and the route east. We also had a very nice chat about what it's like to be living in a place like this... The Visitor Centre also has an interesting, little museum about Labrador and it's mining history and you can watch an informative video about the open-pit mine of the Iron Ore Company of Canada... They have lots of free maps and brochures about Labrador available, there's free wifi, clean toilets, free potable water to fill up your water tanks, they sell some souvenirs and they have a few campingspots with hook-ups around the back where I've spent a very comfortable, quiet night... Thank you Lydia and Gateway Labrador for a very...
Read moreIt was only four stars at this time of year. Late May. As the water lines to the sites are still frozen. But they had potable water hose from the side of the building, but the hose was not long enough to reach the RV sites. The sites are clean and well laid out. The electricity and septic dump at each site worked flawlessly. My only suggestion would be for the visitor centre to place a sign on the door explaining the current services or issues for campers that arrive after closing. As you can book the sites online. However just up the hill there is mall with a Walmart and Canadian Tire if you need to purchase items. The next morning the e staff were fantastic and very helpful. We would stay...
