Goldstream Provincial Park is a true gem of wilderness and beauty within the chaos of the broader Victoria BC region. I can be in nature's beauty one minute and in 10 I can be at Costco that is just down the highway. Hopefully with visitors' thoughtfulness and caring the park will remain beautiful. One way to do that is to stay on the main trail, be quiet as you are walking through such beauty, be respectful of other hikers, keep your trash in your pockets, and respect the rules of the day-use area, campground, and group campsites. That being said, it is a beautiful place to enjoy the beauty of the Coastal temperate rainforest. There are a number of trails beginning and ending in each area of the park. The big problem is that the Trans-Canada Highway bisects the park and does not have any controlled pedestrian crossings. DO NOT CROSS THE HIGHWAY; a number of people have been struck attempting to do so. There are places to park on either side of the highway and there are designated U-turn spots along the highway. Photography, salmon spawning watching, wildlife watching, picnicking, and walking/hiking are just a few things to do here in the park. The campground is very popular as it is in a pristine location and has full facilities available. You need to reserve your spot ahead of time. There are campground closures during the winter and the price of each overnight spot...
Read moreWe have been to the park many times. In the Spring we were fortunate enough to have a naturalist help us identify some birds. I love to photograph them but I have a terrible time remembering visual information so this was a great service to know without having Bird Twitter be uhm it's,,,, |
On Sunday we went while the Salmon were running. I used to live near the Adam's River where the Salmon swim 700 km upstream against the mighty Fraser so I admit I have teased our local salmon for being on the lazy side. But in our catastrophic climate it was a relief to see them thrashing up through rocks in this final act of their life.
We are so lucky to basically have all this nature in our backyard. I hope to go visit the salmon again in better light.
If you go in the spring and have never known why they call these somewhat beautiful vegetation skunk cabbages you will find out.
There are picnic tables under shelter, a campground, washrooms and an interpretive center I confess to never having seen with the pandemic the naturalist was roving when I was there last.
I love nature so it would be weird to give it a 4 . Despite being thwarted in my quest for the perfect photo - the quest...
Read moreBeautiful, beautiful park with gorgeous treed and spaced campsites. We would have enjoyed our stay here immensely, except on our first day dozens and dozens of school-aged children rolled up for a summer camp experience. I am amazed this was allowed to happen spaced out throughout the campground, not in the group camping section, or without reserving this group their own loop. My two young kids were kept up exceptionally late at night and there were loud group activities during their nap time the next day as well. Camp leaders shouting to get the group’s attention, 20 kids being fed at a single campsite directly across from us, and groups of young campers setting up tarps and sleeping areas at 10:00 pm, to loud directions from the leaders. Campgrounds can be busy, but this was beyond. These groups of campers far exceeded the regulations for campground use and I still don’t understand how this is allowed. I would have appreciated at the very least some notice upon check in so we could choose to be relocated to a different site. Even then, we booked this site specially months in advance and travelled across the country to be in it. Very...
