This was my first time visiting Hillman Marsh Conservation Area and it was beautiful. We were lucky enough to visit on the 8th of April, eclipse day. Totality was an awe inspiring event that you couldn't take your eyes off of. Magical, beautiful, phenomenal. Carp were splashing in the water, getting ready for mating season. Herons flying majestically back and forth. What a perfect day to visit. And better yet - the washrooms were open and clean and ready for use. Always a plus. Thank you ERCA for this maintained Conservation Area. God bless.

Excellent birdwatching spot! This was my baby's first bird watching expedition! And we got a bonus experience: The Detroit symphony orchestra played a free concert outdoors at the nature center and the birds sang along with flute and the harp!!!! it was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life! (I recorded some of what we heard at that concert... if you would like to hear it please visit my YouTube channel and/or bandlab. Table and Spoon 3)

Another wonderful conservation area maintained by Essex Region Conservation Authority. The entire trail is quite a long walk. Talks about an hour to go around the marshes. 90% of the trail is grass so feels good to walk. There's a bird watching tower in the middle of the marshes. There's also a boardwalk that takes us into the marshes. Washrooms are maintained well. Great place to spend some evening hours.

It's great in May... but I wish someone warned me that it would be dry in the fall so I didn't have to walk in, braving all those mosquitoes, only to find it was dry in September. Hope this saves someone a trip!

Also, in the fall there's nothing worth seeing here. But in May, this place is bustling with bird life. They have a banding station as well, which is always a ton of fun. I don't remember the exact times, but it's not one of those only early in the...
