We came to 20 Valley Harvest Farm to pick cherries. By the time we arrived, it was already close to 7 PM—around 6:35 PM. I work full-time, and I really wanted to go cherry-picking after work before the season ended.
When we got there, we spent another 10 minutes just getting our baskets and receiving instructions. About 5 minutes after we entered the cherry orchard, a boy walked around and informed us that we had only 10 minutes left. We said okay. By that time, we had already filled our basket. We stayed near the exit, walked among the trees, and ate a few cherries.
Then, at 7:06 PM, a woman wearing a blue shirt and glasses came over to us. I don’t know her name—she was thin and very rude. She loudly told us that if we stayed and continued eating, we would be charged $75 for every hour we stayed beyond closing time. She said this in a harsh tone, almost yelling in our faces.
She then turned to another group who picked a few cherries and shouted at them: “Stop eating! Start walking!” We were all shocked.
She continued shouting, saying that if anyone kept eating after 7 PM, they would be charged for both the time and the cherries. Another woman had a small handful of cherries in her palm, and the staff member demanded, “Where is your basket? These are not from your basket. It’s past closing time—you can’t eat these!” She threatened to charge her extra too.
Then she turned to me and pointed at my basket, saying, “Where did this basket come from? This is not your group’s basket.” But earlier, the woman at the register had told me I could use my own basket if I had one in my car. She even marked it to confirm that I brought it myself and didn’t need to pay extra.
Still, this woman grabbed my basket and started pulling it. I said, “Hey, what are you doing?”—she was about to spill my cherries. She didn’t stop until she saw the mark from the front desk. Then she said, “Fine, this time you can use it. But next time, you can’t.”
I told her this was incredibly rude behavior. She didn’t care—just turned around and walked off.
This experience was truly unbelievable. Such a beautiful farm, such a nice welcome, and yet this one staff member completely ruined the entire visit for us. We came to enjoy nature, breathe fresh air, and make memories—not to be treated like this.
For comparison: just last week we visited Sun Valley Farms. We arrived there 5 minutes before closing time (7 PM), stayed over an hour picking and eating cherries, and not a single staff member rushed or scolded us. Everyone was kind and respectful.
Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about 20 Valley Harvest Farm. I hope the management addresses this issue and ensures that guests are treated with basic courtesy...
Read moreLook elsewhere, or go at your own risk! Please pay attention to all the other negative reviews, because I didn't, and my kids are sorely disappointed. We paid $37.50 and they gave us rotten fruit.
My family arrived on a Saturday morning, and the kids were looking forward to picking their own cherries after waiting for the weekend. When we arrived, there were 2 options: 1) pick your own 2) buy pre-picked fruit. Interestingly, they were the same price, but we choose to pick our own. The last farm we went to the kids picked a ton of fruit, so we opted for the medium size which cost us 37.50. After we went out to the bare trees and sampled the sour cherries, my kids no longer wanted to fill their container with them. So, I took my basket of less that 30 cherries or so and asked if we could get the prepicked fruit for our money instead. I went to the prepicked fruit place where there was fresh looking fruit on display and explained that instead of continuing to pick our own we would like the prepicked fruit instead (it was the same price so it didn't seem an unusual request). The staff person went to the back and brought me a container of clearly rotten and inedible fruits. When I showed her that the prepicked fruit she brought to me in front of my children were black and rotten, she told me there were no refunds. I stated I was not interested in a refund, I simply wanted fresh fruit that I had already paid 37.50 for. She again stated there were no refunds and would not exchange the rotten fruit for edible fruit. Words cannot express how humiliated I was in front of my children when I tried to explain to them that we were not given edible fruit for our money and that it was time to go somewhere else instead. I left the rotten fruit on their counter along with the tasteless cherries we picked and did my best to comfort my crying children on the way home. It doesn't seem legal that they would force you to choose what size you want first, have that size be non-refundable, and then give you rotten fruit for that size, which is also non-refundable. I went to this farm to spend quality time with my family and to support a local business. I never expected to be taken advantage of in this way. Shame on the owners for keeping these rude staff around. We are all trying to help each other out as we navigate this first summer post-covid. There's no need to con people. I have already told everyone I know about this experience and we for sure will...
Read moreIF you are looking for a cherry farm look no further , 20 Valley Harvest Farms is top of the line , you will not find another place like it . This farm and the owners are amazing. Their sweet and sour cherries are the best you will find anywhere in Ontario. The farm is large and clean and full of beautiful fruit, you don't feel crowded because it's a large farm so you can nicely find a spot just for yourself. The parking lot is very close to the entrance so it's very convenient. The staff are super friendly and helpful. If you have a disability they allow you to get close to the trees with your car for the drop off, so it's an ideal place for anyone with disability or the elderly. This is the only farm that has accommodated my mom's disability needs, and I will forever be grateful to them as going to this farm has brought so much joy to her . They have many trees that are short and very easy to reach for kids or anyone on a wheelchair. They also have pre picked fruit if you don't have time for picking yourself. The quality is excellent the best in the area, I love how tastey their sour cherries are, they are just perfect, not too sour, and not too sweet the best combination you can find. They are so generous with how full and flowing they fill the baskets up, if you are getting pre picked . The baskets are so full the fruit is falling off from the sides and always super fresh as if you just picked it yourself. There is also lots of other delicious treats you can get from jam to juice to honey and some other fruits like plums and peaches, etc...In my opinion the price is very fair even cheap given how demanding runing a farm is and how low the margins are in farming. Going to this farm is the highlight of our summer every year, I would strongly recommend for anyone to visit , it's an experience you will not forget. THANK YOU to the owner Paula for creating such a wonderful farm and helping families make...
