I think I have found my new love in life...late harvest and ice wine from Atlantis Niagara Winery! During a really fun and informative wine tasting, we we're treated to about 9 or so different late harvest wines, ciders and ice wines. I kept thinking i had found my favorite and then I'd try another one and love that one too. I couldn't decide because they were all so amazing and I just ended up buying more than half of them!
The Winery is beautiful and the inside is huge with gorgeous decor and a huge center bar surrounded by a view of the orchard. There is inside and outside seating. They are nestled on Lake Ontario and offer overnight stays for the RVing community if you are a member of Harvest Host.
John the owner, was very welcoming. He shared some history of the Winery and then took us down to the lake at the back of the orchard.
We stayed overnight in our motorhome with stunning views of the lake and a beautiful sunset. In the far distance you can actually see the Toronto skyline.
We drifted off at the end of the night to the sounds of waves crashing against the rocks nearby.
This is one place everyone needs to visit. We can't wait...
Read morePros: A good variation of ciders. Our server Lisa was very attentive, helpful and friendly. She was knowledgeable in helping through the selection of ice wines. She was able to suggest variations of which she liked for example "Red Ice" and was able to suggest that the pear cider was although tart but sweeter than the "mother pucker". Washroom was very clean.
Cons: Some ciders were a bit tart and not to my personal taste but it doesn't mean that it wasn't for others. Somewhere along the tasting we got lost and forgotten. The pricing can be a bit steep but you won't be able to find the exact tastes at the LCBO, in end we throught it was unique enough and worth it. But some may not want to drop $40-$125/bottle. In november, they do not serve the mother pucker slush. (I think if they offered it all year long as a signature drink, it would do well as a staple for a winery tour--Who knows?).
Overall We settled with the merlot because it was slightly drier than the Red Ice. None the less it was a lovely wine and even won...
Read moreWe went here on a wine tour as our last stop. Easily the most entertaining and best tasting place of the day.
These guys are a bit different, as they offer plenty of ice win and late harvest options - and they are very fruity! They don't only do grape, but offer plum, apple, peach, e.t.c. They even suggest you try their ice wine slushy and try combinations!
When the owner arrived he greeted us warmly and the staff inside were very helpful and accommodating with our questions.
The property they are located on isn't very developed (no paved roads) as it is still new, but if you give them time I believe this will be a top entertainment spot for the younger crowd.
As for the wine itself, you have to understand that since they offer predominantly late harvest and ice wines, what you consume will be sweet. They also offer very sour options as well that will make you squirm (in a good way)
I would recommend this place and to sample their wines (especially those with your...
