This was my first time tubing down Pinawa channel. I decided to book with Pinewa Unplugged because I liked the kayak type tubes that they had. The tubes did not disappoint very comfortable and roomy. I was a bit disappointed with the service. Nothing was explained and although I asked a lot of questions many of the responses were “it’s up to you”. So for those who are going for the first time here are some recommendations from my experience to make your experience as enjoyable as it can be.

The tubes are a bit heavy you can ask staff to carry the tubes for you.

Take a paddle- especially if it’s windy. You’ll need to paddle in some instances.

The current is fast in some places if you loose your tube a it could be challenging to get it back even if you are a good swimmer.

There is a sort of half way point on the left with a big rock, open space and a pump house for reference.

You’ lol need to get off the channel before the bridge there is a small sign indicating the end and people will probably be piled up there. There is a big drop off there so be careful.

Other people tubbing can be very helpful don’t be afraid to ask them questions or their recommendations.

Hope...

I’ve been 3 times this summer on the inflatable kayak and had fun each time. It’s a relaxing float down the channel not white water rafting so don’t worry Unplugged will take care of you. Pinawa Unplugged has the comfortable kayaks not the tubes that get hung up on rocks or send you uncontrollably into the bushes along the shore. You have way more control with the Kayak and this is why you don’t mess around and book with Pinawa Unplugged. Grab a cooler tube( for free) and hook it to the back of the Kayak to hold your refreshments and other items. Pro tip** grab the red paddle they’re longer/better. We took our time and enjoyed the sun, scenery, and had lots of laughs.. This is a great family experience as well as something fun to do with out of town guests to show them the beauty of Manitoba. It would also be a great for new Canadians, friendly get togethers, and other groups. Unplugged checks all the boxes for a unique adventure. Booking was simple and the Unplugged staff were super friendly and helpful. They even hold your car keys so you don’t lose them while you float. If you’ve never gone you should try it for...

Experience on actual river was awesome. Only reason I gave 4 is if you don't notice your email prior to heading out or if someone booked on your behalf, you end up driving 1st to the office where google takes you before having to detour back to the actual site where you start off. (which could be time sensitive if you are not early) Also we were not given enough paddles for the tubes handed to us so we had to split ours in half which made it hard to keep up with others in our group at times. But otherwise we would totally go again,. It was fun for ALL ages in our family. Everyone from 8 years old, up to the 22 yrs and us oldies as well. So much fun! Tickets in advance are good when you are using their tubes. Was a bit congested at times on the river. Not sure if they let too many walk-ups show up...perhaps that could be managed a bit better. As well, 2 of the bathrooms were always locked so only 2 left. Adding change-rooms would be helpful as people had to wait for bathroom SO long because people used them as change...

The amount of garbage left behind is disappointing. I understand you can't control your customers choosing to litter but your employees certainly can be trained better. I was at the Pinawa Dam around 5 pm today and saw two teenagers sitting on tubes ripping apart a sunflower seed bag while waiting for riders to come in. When I returned from my walk I noticed the bag was scattered in pieces on the ground and there was broken pieces of the paddle and tubes left behind. The staff all went home and no one was there to clean up. Considering your business relies heavily on the environment and Pinawa area I believe investing in cleaning up would prove beneficial. EDIT: According to owners reply the tubes and paddled are apparently not from Pinawa unplugged. They were just near where their employees left their food garbage. There are multiple vendors and people at the exit so there could have been confusion, except the staff were wearing clearly marked employee shirts.

Had a great trip. This was our 2nd time with pinawa unplugged. We arrived and when we got to the dam, our tubes were loaded and waiting for us, then the helpful staff helped by pulling the wagons to the loading area where we went down to the water. We brought my 83 year old mother who had heart surgery a month prior and has always been nervous around water with us. She had a great time, she wished other floaters left the music at home so she could be in the nature and experience the birds and other animals in the peace and quiet. We saw a young bear having a snack of berries. Very relaxing, my husband, son and daughter were able to take tones of pictures. My boys enjoyed tossing the sponge back and forth getting all of us wet. We pulled to the side and had a little picnic, using the cooler tube that we can attach to the raft that carried the cooler for us. Definitely will be making this a regular occurrence with the family.
