I used to visit Ahmic Lake as a small child. We would often wonder about the name, we didn't have Bing back then. Then one day I when I was older I met a local that had lived in the area since before Columbus arrived. He told me that the name was Spanish for "to wet". At that moment many puzzle pieces fell onto place, the big towels at the market, the fish, the long evenings and all of the footprints when you walk out of the water after a day of fishing with mason jars. This lake makes me wet.
