We stayed in marathon for the night on a road trip to Thunder Bay and wanted to explore a few things in marathon before leaving. We looked at some pictures of pebble beach online before going and the pictures do not do it justice! These are big round smooth rocks. We didn’t have much time to spend here but if you like looking at rocks you could easily spend a day here lol. We found a fossilized honeycomb coral. The water was freezing (obviously - Lake Superior) end of June morning when we visited. There was a boardwalk also. Dog friendly No bathrooms that I saw but I also wasn’t looking for them.

We were disappointed to find that the beach was closed due to construction. We got a tip from a local that the barricades are moved in the mornings and evenings when they are not working. We headed down at sunset and had the beach mostly to ourselves. The path to get down to the beach is steep gravel and the pebbles are actually quite large which makes walking on them a bit difficult. The view was well worth it.

Excellent place to stop for a picnic. The Beach is exactly as the title suggests all pebbles but they get smaller as you get into the water. There is a parking area that can accommodate a few cars and several trailers. There are a few picnic tables up above the beach on a grassy section of land perfect to stop and eat and still enjoy the views of the water. It wasn't that busy when we stopped.

This is an extensive area along the beach of the great lakes and it contains pebbles of different colours and qualities strewn along it. All along the coast of the great lakes this phenomenon is present and every town along the coast displays boards like the ones in Marathon. Please do not remove the pebbles , leave them for the generations to enjoy. I happened to travel from Barrie to Thunderbay on an occasion and enjoyed by stopping along the beach several times.on another occasion from thunder bay to Chicago along the shore to the extent possible....

This is picturesque spot to watch the sun set, read a book or just relax in the car and listen to tunes. The beach is relatively easily accessible and you'd be wise to wear shoes that have good ankle support if you do decide to venture down to the 'pebbled' beach. In the summer months there are picnic tables and there's a little playground nearby for your little ones. If you so visit this spot, please take care to dispose of your garbage in the bins provided to help keep beach and parking area clean and pretty for...
