German Mills Meadow & Natural Habitat is part of the German Mills Creek system, and the East Don watershed. This natural park is an important ecosystem that supports abundance of flora and fauna, including over 70 bird species and 15 mammal species. The park is also home to amphibians and reptiles including: frogs, snapping turtles, garter snakes, and little brown snakes; several species of fish; and many varieties of insects. The large grassland on the west side of German Mills Creek provides a valuable nesting site for ground nesting birds. The vegetation in this area consists of tall and short grasses, broad-leaf plants, as well as a few scattered shrubs and trees. This provides a variety of habitats and helps to create a healthy ecosystem, which supports a diverse and abundant wildlife. German Mills Meadow & Natural Habitat is located on the former Sabiston Landfill Site which was closed and...

This is our first time to walk here. It is part of Markham's Lake to Lake system which travels between Lake Simcoe to Lake Ontario (total of 121km). This portion is from Steeles Ave to Hwy 7 (4.2km) We enjoyed this warm Thanksgiving Monday weather to take a walk there. It was great to be outdoors and this route was not too busy with other walkers and bicycles. The trees are in the middle of transferring to fall colours so it should happen more during this week. There is a stream here along the route and places off the route to explore. I would like to continue walking along or riding this route in the...

Great short hike on a paved path, if you wander on the side trails off the pavement you will experience a lot of natural wooded beauty, although do not go there after rain as a TON of snails just cover the path making it impossible not to crush them.

The hills have a beautiful view so if you make it there I hope you enjoy. 2-3 hours should cover the park if you walk slowly. Not enough benches and garbage cans so keep that in mind while hiking, no...

Lake to Lake Route - German Mills and Huntington Trails York Region has connected this Lake to Lake Route from Lake Simcoe to Lake Ontario. We started the trail at German Mills Settlers Park which is paved and leads to forest trails, a meadow that is being regenerated and the German Mills Creek. You can see the highway at the end of the hike. One also walks on sidewalks to connect to both trails.

It was a good choice! This trail was perfect for a family hike on weekend. It was not crowded and the loop was suitable for all levels. There was a bit of everything (including uphill, downhill, stairs, mud and paved roads). It was very easy to follow and the scenery was beautiful. Will come back again sometime!
