We had a beautiful sunny day for our tour, which started at 2:30 with an introductory talk and concluded just before 5 PM. There was a washroom in the interpretive building, but also a trailer outside with four toilets. I think it would be good for there to be a sign in the interpretive center telling you about the extra toilets (present on tour day, if not always).
We actually came to see the interpretive centre the day before the tour, so that it was not as busy. Being short and having a neck injury, I had trouble reading some of the items that were placed quite high on the walls and had to stop reading them, but did find what I could read very interesting.
There was a large variety of souvenir items, some quite unique, such as the the water bottle that you could drink out of and also spritz your face to cool off. I found the souvenir prices quite reasonable. There is a wide range of styles and sizes of shirts for adults and youth and onesies for babies. There were two kinds of ball caps, but both were dark. It would be nice to see a lighter or different colour than black. I would have bought one if there had been a colour I liked.
I enjoyed seeing the items that I have seen discovered on the show. I was especially interested in the (ruby). I look forward to seeing more discovered items in the future. The history was really quite interesting. The tour was excellent and I appreciated having the golf carts available for medical and mobility issues.
It is nice that dogs are welcome on the tour. It was a hot day, so I am happy that none attended ours. I highly recommend the interpretive centre and island tour! I wish I had known about the boat tour, run by a private contractor, beforehand, as I think it is a great opportunity for people who may not be able to get island tour...
Read moreThe suspense and mystery of this island has a unique draw that many humans throughout history unquestionably can not ignore. There has always been talk of there being no treasure to be found. This is a statement that is made by humans that are blinded by riches. Wether or not any gold or riches are ever found has no impact whatsoever on their being treasure on this island. The Laginas are the first people in world (original depositors excluded) history to be able to find a way to finance and carry out the search in such a grand way. Their ability to document and log so many facts has began to turn flights of fancy into hard data. The true treasure here has always been and will always be as much of a complete documented factually based historical account of this place as possible. The Laginas ability to give this to the world is truly priceless. The Laginas, being the first people in history to make the quest for knowledge more important than held riches, would put them as the kind of folks that the original depositors designed this Island for. makes them the first truly , shall we say, "deserving", if you will, people in history to make the quest their life's work. The true treasure here always will be knowledge. The Laginas and their world class team have clearly demonstrated that finding the truth and knowledge , are far more important than their riches. The riches would just be a nice bonus. This truly makes them the first deserving searchers in world history. One who is worthy of immeasurable wealth would truly have no use for it, as knowledge is truly worth more. Money can be spent. The truth in evedinceual fact is eternal. I do Hope to someday be able to witness this magical place first hand. Keep up the good work and may luck stay on your side. 👏 hats off to the...
Read moreA must visit for any fan of the show/story. A small visitors center packed with a ton of information and history. The walls are covered with old articles, sketches and notes from the beginning of the treasure hunt. They also have display cases with all of the articles that have been found (including the coins, spoon, buttons, buckles and the cross that were discovered on the show. Also a chance to say you physically visited oak island and pick up a souvenir from the gift shop (same building)! Be aware that when you approach the causeway connecting the island to mainland there are multiple signs explaining that there is active filming and by crossing you are giving consent to being filmed. Do not let that turn you away, I've been on the island twice and from that area you would never know there was...
