I’ve been coming to this park every fall since 2013, generally 3-5 weekends each year. Fall used to be excellent; relatively quiet on weekends unless events were being run. Camping used to be fine, aside from the noise pollution from trains/401 traffic.
As of 2024, the park has grown in popularity to the point where it resembles Canada’s Wonderland for ease of entry and exit on weekends.
I was there on 18-20 October 2024 - Friday was quiet. On Saturday & Sunday, the parking lots were full to the brim - no staff were present to control traffic beyond the gates. No staff were monitoring the parking lots or directing visitors to the overflow parking lots.
Frustrated visitors were not observing stop/yield signs as they searched for an elusive spot to park. I witnessed several altercations between drivers arguing over parking spots/right of way. Vehicles were parked on grass, along the roads and in many areas clearly marked as “no parking” zones.
By 1400 on Sunday, there was a 2+ hour wait for entry, which turned Kelso Road and Tremaine Road into a parking lot. When we did depart at 1710, we observed staff doing traffic control at the main gate, which only had one kiosk open handling admission. Exit was being done from an alternate gate location on Tremaine Road with staff present.
The staff who had the misfortune of working on 20 October 2024 should be commended for their efforts; they clearly made the park A TON of money through the number of gate admissions alone.
However, it was obvious from the lack of traffic control, unsanitary condition of the washrooms and absence of roving patrols that capacity for the park had been exceeded beyond what the staff could safely manage.
A supervisor should have stepped in when Tremaine Road became a parking lot and started limiting entry or asked for additional support from the police to manage traffic on Tremaine Road.
Bottom line: Skip this park on weekends if you don’t like crowds. If you can’t stay away, pack your patience and plan to arrive before 12pm to secure a parking space and access the chair lift rides that run...
