I had an absolutely awful, disgraceful, and inexcusable experience at this establishment โ one that exposed how little they value their guests, their own policies, or basic human decency.
I made a reservation two weeks in advance for 1:30 PM on a Saturday; meant to be my birthday lunch. I even confirmed it the night before. On the day of, we were running 12 minutes late, so I called twice before the reservation to let them know (because I actually believe in being considerate). No one picked up.
We arrived at 1:43 PM, still within a standard 15-minute grace period, and thatโs when the absurdity began. The greeter glanced at us, seated another couple, and then told us she โdidnโt see our reservation in the system.โ I explained that it was confirmed, that Iโd called, and she went to get her supervisor.
The supervisor came over and, without apology, announced that our reservation had been canceled and our table was given away. No explanation, no accountability, just indifference. When I pointed out that I had called and that we were still within the grace period, she had the nerve to say, โBut did you speak to someone?โ Excuse me? Did you pick up the phone? Did you call your guests before deciding to cancel their table twelve minutes after their reserved time? To make matters worse, I later received an email showing the winery canceled our reservation at 1:42 PM โ TWELVE minutes after the scheduled time?! The email only came through at 1:42, so it couldโve been earlier than that! That means they broke any grace-period rule and didnโt even bother to check if we were on our way. You realize people drive out of the city to these kinds of places and being several minutes late is normal?
It sounds like they overbooked or gave preference to a walk-in and took advantage of the fact that we were a little late to cancel the reservation to fix their own scheduling problem. Even just the fact that the supervisor and manager couldnโt agree on their stories about who took our table makes it even more shady.
We were then told to โwait and see if a table opens up.โ No apology. No reassurance. Just dismissiveness. We sat there for nearly fifty minutes, ignored completely, while staff passed by pretending we didnโt exist. Not even a glass of water, despite being told someone would bring wine over. We were brought some Prosecco nearly at the end after I asked, but wish I hadnโt.
And the manager Nicolas: what a display of cowardice. Instead of coming up to us to address the situation he caused, him and the other 2 staff members kept huddling and discussing things about us a couple feet away. Extremely unprofessional and laughable. He walked by multiple times, deliberately avoiding us, until I finally asked him to come speak to me. When he did, he blamed us, lied about the situation saying the table given away was actually another reservation (contrary to the supervisor confirming that it was a walk-in), and showed zero accountability. Even if it was a reservation, wouldnโt that mean both tables were accounted for? Make it make sense. Itโs deceitful and appalling. And your power trip wasnโt successful today. Honestly this checks out with the other reviews about such offensive customer service.
The staff was also extremely disorganized. They were constantly dropping things. It was chaotic. This was supposed to be a birthday lunch which we drove an hour to, and instead it turned into a masterclass in arrogance, incompetence, and complete lack of integrity.
Some advice for management: Pick up the phone. Itโs not hard. Honour your own policies. Donโt cancel twelve minutes in. And if you ruin someoneโs day, at least have the decency to apologize instead of hiding behind smug attitudes and lies. There were zero apologies or accountability for their missteps. We ended up leaving after being ignored for almost an hour.
To the manager and staff involved: you should be genuinely ashamed and embarrassed. The only thing more disappointing than your service was your behaviour and how you handled things. Owners, rethink...
ย ย ย Read moreWas a beautiful winery, the shared plates were delicious that we tried. My husband said the oxtail was a bit too lemon forward, but I thought it was good.
We were staying at Hockley Valley Resort for our 5th wedding anniversary.
We also had a voucher from Hockley Valley resort for wine tasting and dinner for 2. Everything started off well with the server, who explained the voucher and took our order because there were some dishes that weren't a part of the voucher. Awesome, no problem. On top of the voucher, we also ordered some more drinks and another dish on top. Waited 20 mins for a beer to get cold, but even that my husband just chalked to bad timing. The server goes home for the day, and we get passed to another server, no problem. Asked for recommendations and was looking forward to picking up a few bottles of white for summer and my husband's mom. Dont really like Chardonnay, but the 1st server sold me on this one.
The issue was when we asked for our bill, 1st time full amount for the whole meal was charged so we had to ask for the voucher to be honoured, honest mistake our 2nd server made no problem. Then the bill comes back with only 75% of the voucher honoured. We had to ask again. Then the bill comes back, and we are being charged for the most expensive item as our "extra" because it's the policy the server said. I feel bad at this point because it's obviously not her calling the shots, but it was the principle of what we agreed on. So i explained to her again what the 1st server noted when our orders were taken. All in all, this is taking a longer time than expected. At this point, our daughter was tired, and I can tell we have to go.
So while the server is discussing with the manager about the bill downstairs we pack up everything and decide to go downstairs, try and add some bottles of wines to our bill and pay the last version of the bill.
When i get downstairs, the manager and server are at the cash register, so i walk over to say hi dont worry about it, and can we just pay. Well, as soon as i wave and say hi, the manager whisks past me without acknowledging me. It was so rude and un professional. The server comes up with the bill and its finally correct and I pay while my daughter is crying and my husband is trying to soothe her and to be honest it ended our anniversary dinner in such a negative and petty way.
If we had known, we could have just gone for a meal somewhere else and celebrated properly.
Would have also shared this feedback with the manager if he had spoken to us.
A few friends of mine really like this winery, and we wished we had a better experience to...

The grounds are beautiful and the building is modern, clean and the decor is very nice. We went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived and waited at the reception for approximately 5 minutes before being acknowledged. A woman tried to help us but told us she knew nothing about anything and went to find another employee who was able to help us. We did not make reservations so were not upset or surprised that we were told we would have to wait for a half hour to be seated or to have a tasting. We were told we were welcome to walk the grounds and come back and she took our names. After a half hour we came back and there was a different hostess. She told us to wait a bit longer as she had to seat another couple who had come in after us. She seemed surprised and quite apologetic that we had been waiting for a half hour and seated us after about 5 minutes. Everything seemed fine, she gave us menus, water and cutlery. After that we waited and waited to be acknowledged by anyone. After 20 minutes of just sitting there we flagged down a server to ask if we could please be served. She said she would find someone and disappeared. 10 more minutes went by and still no one came and we flagged down a second waitress who did the same thing. Finally after more than 30 minutes had passed a server came (who had passed by our table at least a dozen times) came by to take our order. We expressed our concerns that we had waited for so long. Another woman came and brought us a complimentary tasting for the long wait. We were able to finally order and had a nice meal and some tastings. Before our meal was over we were told our server was going on break and another gentleman looked after us. The food was quite good and the selection of wines was good as well. Overall we enjoyed the winery but felt that the service staff was extremely disorganized. This experience could have been a five star. Something really needs to be done to organize and train the staff properly. We loved the Sauvingon Blanc and ended up buying a couple of bottles to enjoy at home. Hopefully the service improves...
