This park is massive and so stunning. So diverse. We were here for one day and it was not nearly enough time so we will have to come back. The Fjords are breathtaking. I read the review that the hike to the statue is challenging so we drove to the lookout in the L’anse area. Views are amazing. Then did the 1.6k loop near the discovery centre which was also beautiful and offered amazing and completely different views from ground level. We then drove over to the baie margurite area and walked beluga lookout. Sadly no whales to be found. Really underestimated how large this park is. Everything is a very far drive away from each other. The free ferry At the mouth of the river was very helpful though. Would love to stay and camp next time so we are able to do more of it. Another challenging part was that the staff don’t speak a word of English. And all the maps and signs are exclusively French as well which is frustrating. Unlike the actual national parks which are bilingual. We eventually figure it out, just took some...
Read moreFantastic place to get way and see a true natural wonder of the world! For all visiting anglophiles, please know this area of Quebec is VERY French and you may find it difficult to navigate, deal with French only signage, and English translated documents are often brief and may not contain all the details (camping regulations, for example!). The people are warm and welcoming, and patient with tourists leaning on Google translate and hand gestures, the produce is great and the hiking, kayaking and whale watching is unparalleled. CAUTION!!! Kayaking in the Sauenay or in the Taddsec harbor is NOT advised without an experienced guide - the currents are complicated, the water colder than in the lower 48, and many areas are excluded due to whale activity. Hire a guide or rent you boats unless you have cold water...
Read moreYes it is a beautiful park but completely dog unfriendly! We had planned to stay there and we have a 13.5 yo small dog who does not do a lot and is quiet. They told us no dogs on the trails which was fine but then when we said we would keep the dog in the trailer and not go hiking, they said you can't even go in the park gate with a dog in the car. Very disappointing. Also, we have a Canada National Park Pass and they would not accept it because it is Quebec. I do get Quebec's efforts to maintain it's independence but come on, it is part of and receives money from Canada's Park system and should respect the National Park Pass. But things always work out and we stayed at a most wonderful place at Rose du Nord, at a camp Descente de Femmes. It was just beautiful there and...
