Cape Jourimain Nature Centre is one of it’s kind. It’s location makes it special. It is situated on Cape Jourimain Islands. These islands are classified as National Wildlife Area as well. These are the islands where historic Confederation Bridge starts from the New Brunswick side.
The Nature Centre can easily be navigated on all kinds of Maps. Being located right at the root of the bridge one can have stunning views of the bridge from the look off tower built besides the Museum. The Museum and the store close at 5pm rest of the places including look off tower are open all the time. This Nature Centre is comprised of around 8km length of maintained trails across the whole wild life area passing through Salt Marsh, wild rose bush, woods, coastline and under the bridge. A Museum about local birds and their habitat and range of migration, a big eatery and a kitchen is also located in the Museum building, a store to buy souvenirs where you can taste different ice cream flavours too and of course a good size parking area. The review won’t be complete without mentioning another beautiful attraction of the place which is the lighthouse, of course. There’s another coastline trail that can take you right to the lighthouse while relishing the gorgeous views of beach and the bridge.
I bet these islands must have some native history as well. However, I didn’t notice if it’s mentioned anywhere in the museum at all or at other places. Apart from that it’s a must visit place especially...
Read moreThis place used to be a tourist information centre with a tourist shop, a restaurant, free parking. Every time you dropped in, there would be dozens of out of province tourists seeking help, booking hotels, planning trips with expert agents. Apparently the government cut funding by $50,000, it appears to be two small shops, a snack bar and of course the original displays , trails and lighthouse. They want $5 to park in rural New Brunswick!! I have cottage a few minutes away and am totally done with this place. Better service available at local gas stations. The destruction of this tourist information centre is not justified by a $50,000 cut to budget. Core service could have been maintained. Never seen any other province with no tourist info at border and taking advantage of tourists by charging for parking. Will boost the business at PEI village on...
Read more$5 just to park? I can see charging for access to the park, lighthouse or hiking trails, we would have paid for that had we known what was there, but simply to park? Forget it. We stopped after the bridge wanting to stretch our legs and see what the place had to offer because we did not know, but as we couldn't even enter the parking lot without a money grab, we drove off. Maybe the tours might have been interesting, but it was very off-putting. The up-front greed simply invited us to turn the car around and leave. Our road trip $$$ went to places that allowed us to get in the door and make a more informed decision on what we wanted to...
