The longest covered bridge in the world is located in Hartland New Brunswick, but did you know that as well as being able to drive across the bridge you can walk across it ? This fascinating historic site was constructed in 1898 and it is amazing to see the enormous beams and intricate construction of this bridge. It is 1, 282 feet long and crosses the Saint John or Wolastoq river. Wolastoq is the original Indigenous name given to the river by the Maliseet people, and translates as " the beautiful river' , and indeed it is . If you are a fan of historic buildings and structures, this trip to Hartland is a must! Walking across the covered pedestrian walkway attached to the bridge, you are suspended high above the river . I am not fond of heights but this is a safe, family friendly walking area that is very well constructed and I was not afraid to venture on it. It provides a terrific vantage point of the surrounding area. As you walk across this side section of the bridge, there are several signs explaining the construction of the bridge and offering history of the area. Rain or shine, this makes a great outing to be part of the history of the area. It is a very rare opportunity to walk or drive across such an awesome bridge. Take this side trip off the highway , you will be...

The Harland Covered Bridge is a must-see for any visitor to New Brunswick. As the world's longest covered bridge, it's a truly impressive feat of engineering. Spanning 1,282 feet across the Saint John River, it's a captivating sight to behold.

We got some dinner at the food truck next to the visitors center. The food was incredible.

Driving across the bridge is an experience in itself. The enclosed structure provides a unique perspective of the river and surrounding landscape. The bridge's historical significance adds to its allure, as it's a testament to the ingenuity and craftsmanship of its builders.

Beyond its impressive length, the bridge is also a popular spot for photography. Its red exterior against the natural backdrop creates stunning images. While driving across is a must, taking the time to walk along the pedestrian walkway offers a different perspective and allows for leisurely photo opportunities.

The Harland Covered Bridge is more than just a bridge; it's a symbol of New Brunswick's rich history and a testament to human ingenuity. A visit to this iconic landmark is a highlight of any trip to...

This is a famous "by-pass" photo spot on the NB provincial route. Look at the nameplate on the bridge said that this is a hundred years old bridge, but the age of the bridge was added a cover, the cover is also for the bridge structure is more stable. I think it is actually equivalent to the bridge wrapped in a circle of tape. The bridge was initially for vehicular traffic only, but later a pedestrian walkway was added. Vehicular traffic is only supported in one direction, you can understand this bridge is a big Canadian stop sign. I'll go when you go. After driving here in Canada for a long time, there is nothing inconvenient or incomprehensible. Driving on the bridge is like traveling through an old miner's tunnel. The wooden planks of the bridge rumble as vehicles pass by, like an echo of old times. This is the only attraction here. The mini-mart under the courthouse across the bridge is a big hit with tourists, and many people come there to buy something instead of going to the souvenir store after hitting the bridge. This is very...
